Are seeds f'd if they get frozen?

I just ordered some seeds. They should be coming in the mail any day now. But the weather here has gotten fn cold, like -12c to -21c cold. Will the seeds be f'd if they freeze in transit?
Long term storage is generally advised to freezer store them, maybe if they reach some low enough temperature they'll have issues but all in all I think you'll be ok ;)

You're good. I used to store seeds in the freezer. I quit because I've read you're not supposed to freeze, thaw, freeze them. I honestly don't know how true it is, because I've done it with no I'll ill effects. I have a pretty big seed collection these days and don't want to leave it up to a "what if", so I store in a mini fridge now.

The thing with freezing seeds is they need to be protected from crushing and jostling. The breeder should have saved you from the crushing danger and possibly the jostling. I guess it really depends on how well the seedbank packaged your order and how your package is handled by the mail folks.

I wouldn't worry too much but I try to order seeds in the fall and spring for the most part. I avoid placing orders when it's gonna be super hot or super cold while shipping. Luckily global warming is real and I don't have to worry about the winter thing too much anymore lol.

I can't count the number of times i've thawed out the vault, seeds still pop and they go back into the freezer. I try to mitigate against humidity but even then it aint perfect and they appear to keep ok being frozen refrozen etc.

That's exactly my point of view on it too, and what I did for quite a while. Then I went on a seed buying kick in the last couple years and I look at how much I have invested in this stuff, and it's scary to think of losing it. Rev talks about freezing seeds in one of his books too, he says no problem going in and out and back in freezer.

If the seeds have been properly dried, you can freeze them. You will need to soak them or put them in an paper towel to germinate.

Mail? Don't worry about it. They will be fine.

Properly dried?
Please explain?
I made some white russian seeds last spring. I...uhhh... just let the buds dry out to the usual 62 rh and then gutted them to get the seeds. I put em in a jar and have kept them in camping cooler in the basement ever since.
Did i miss something?

On a side note, 6 months later i gave 30 to friend. 27 of em popped... so... theyre good so far... lol

Gqueb,
Ya...I used to store seeds in the freezer without issue. Better then storing them in your sock drawer. I read a post by a guy that froze his seeds accidentally...and discarded his entire collection of hundreds of seeds. Made me weep!
JD
That would suck...lol

I never give up on seeds. Not after my very first grow, which came from seeds that had been in a baggie in kitchen drawer for 25 plus years.
No shit. I germed 10 and 6 popped. And 1 almost popped. From those 6 i got four decent girls, lucky me.

When you pick the seeded buds, dry the buds until they are ready to smoke, then shuck them out. Then put them in a bag.
If you pick them out of fresh buds and put them in a bag they will mold. If you put fresh seeds in the freezer they will burst.

If you let humidity rise too high while finished seeds are in live plants they can sprout in the flowers of live plants.
Lol I’ve seen it outside my buddy was all baked and called me flipping out saying there were worms coming out of the buds. Was a shitty bagseed that Hermed like crazy and it was full of seeds that he didn’t notice (newbie$ and the whole plant was covered in taproots. Was pretty damn funny. He moved away that year and the next season I was going to do some grows so I went to the same spot to put a couple plants there as it was a good place . Walked there and there were 30 plants in a ten foot radius around where the plant had been planted. I decided Let them grow and not one herm. Pulled 6 pounds of decent bud out of it. Called buddy and told him and he was rattled. That’s why when people say oh it’s a bag seed and it’s jusy going to be a herm cuz it came from a herm it’s going to be shit. I don’t quite believe it. Nature is a trippy thing sometimes

Think about the nature of seeds. The plant grows, makes its seeds, drop its seeds, the said seeds lay on the ground all winter long which is pretty cold in some places then the strongest ones grow come spring. I’ve got plenty of beans that came in in freezing weather and then sat in the mailbox for a day or two and they pop

Had this happen with some wedding cake I hit with gdp. Left them on the Bush too long and checked a few beans and they had either split or showed tails. A bunch of Wedding cake x gdp went straight into soil and are in the garden nowF5FB34C2-3E59-4F93-B595-6AC35A2A440E.jpeg
