Are all hps light created equal?

I am looking to get a new hps light before my plants go to into the flowering stage. I went to my local hardware store and they have a 150w system that is used for outside of the house lighting and stuff like that. I wanted to know if this kind of light will work for growing, or do I need something more specific for plants?

I use a 400 watt dual spectrum bulb.
I think youll find that the proper grow bulbs are a lot better than bulbs produced for lighting up your garden for 5 minutes whn you come home or if you have an intruder.
You can grow with these and you will get some bud but it wont be anywhere near as good as the real deal:blsmoke:

if just using and hps, and not a dual spectrum bulb...............

hps is hps.

Dude, it'll work fine. You could drop $1500 on lighting and still find ways to spend more. You'll be kicking out a pretty good light spectrum though. Much better than CFL.

Yeah I was thinking the 150w hps and then supplement with all or most of the cfls and tube fluoros that I am using now.
