aragonite has anyone used it.

Just wondering if it would be a good alternative to dolamite. It is a great buffer for saltwater, it also plays a huge role in the nitrogen cycle. And provides cal/mag. Any thoughts?

I have no idea, but any particular reason for wanting to substitute?

Unless you have a some on hand, I doubt that it would be cheaper than the dolo. I pay less than $5 for a 40lb bag at Lowes.

Dolomite is not the end all for pH and cal/mag. There are other things that work well, sweet lime, oyster shell flour to name a couple. Mostly it comes down to what you can source the cheapest.

Yes I have about 200 lbs of it. LoL, I used it for low ph and cal/mag in my saltwater tanks. The way it works is high acid (low ph) breaks the bond between the cal & carbonite. Which works as a ph up and that makes the cal. Available it worked really well. Don't know for sure but ph&cal seem to be a major posting topic. Just a thought. Of possibly could be a good solution.

Give it a try in a container or 2?

I'd look into it further if you have that much laying around, but I have no idea.
