Aquarium UV Sterilizers ?

I was wondering if you could use Aquarium UV Sterilizers in your rez or for cloners etc. Does anybody know if these can be used? I am mainly thinking about using one in my cloner so there would be little or no nutrients for it to effect. Any info would be great. Thanks

It's said the UV will cause some elements of the nutes to drop out,but that is the only concern i've read. I think most ppl use the UV in the water for a day or so before they add the water in the res. I personally gave up on sterilization and moved on to beneficial bacteria.

Why do you need one for your cloner? Not sure you're exact method, but assuming you're talking about an aero cloner you'd be fine without one and I doubt you'll see any changes in your time it takes to get roots.

I'm on board with heisenberg, beneficial bacteria can really make a world of difference.

I've been trying to cut my rooting times down from 10 days using my aerocloner. Recently I purchased an aeromist fogger to give that a try with cloning but need a bit more time before my moms are ready. I've read up on some people having results as early as 4/5 days time with the foggers but they don't seem to be that popular as the foggers can raise your temps and don't play well with nutes.

I use a bubble cloner and I get great results from it but at the end of a run I have been getting algae. I thought if I got a sterilizer I wouldn't have to change my res as often and when a clone gets done I can just pop a new one in instead of waiting a week for the slow ones to finish up. I have found that when I change water with clones in the middle of rooting they don't like it so Im trying to keep my water changes as few as possible while minimizing any algae or any other bad bacteria in my cloner. Some of my strains take as little as 4-5 days to root while others can take close to 2 weeks...

I get roots in 5 days in my bubble cloner, using EWC microbe tea, but that's only a few cuttings. There are always a few that take 10 days. I simply have a second cloner set up and I take clones 7 days apart from each other. That way, the slow cuttings in the first cloner can have an extra week to pop roots, while I wait for second cloner. After two weeks if the cuttings havent popped I give up on them and throw them out. I still end up with way more clones than I need, which allows me to pick and choose the best ones.

The best way to discourage algae is to deprive it of all light.
