.. hey hey, i was just wondering if anyone uses the epsoma dry stuff that comes in a nice sized package from like a lowes or home depot type of store, with soil grows?

i got a bag of the blood, a bag of the bone meals, and one of the all in one that i'm forgetting the name of atm, and was thinking of adding it to a pre bought soil, also a home depot type soil, again, i'm drawing a blank on the name, and was wondering if anyone could recommend to me amounts of said products to add per gallon, or 5 gallons, as that's what i'm going to be using for pots..

and help or advice would be greatly appreciated as i don't want to go burning a freshly rooted clone if i can help it..
thanks ahead of time.. :D

Hey Racer............ I used to use them way back when and do not remember the quantities I used per 5 gallon bucket. But the quality is fine and they are rather cheap comparatively. They are mainly available on the eastern half of the country and I sold 1000's of them as an Operations Director for a leading multi-unit garden store business in my area.

What I can add is it takes time for these products to break down so they become available for the roots to absorb, and are probably better suited outside than in. I'd use enzymes, teas, mycos, etc. to help the process along. And you need to add plenty of lime (3-4 cups per 3.8 cu ft bale of pro-mix) to make sure you pH is within the acceptable range.

Lastly, I don't think I ever burned a plant using them clone or otherwise......as I stated, too slow a break down process to burn anything.

very cool, thanks for the info sshz.. i know i read someone else on here using them in the past, and i don't see how blone or bone meal could be a bad addition, no matter the manufacturer.
now i'll need to look around for some lime, i wonder if a super store like the ones i mentioned earlier would carry it or not.

thanks again for the info, much appreciated..

Blone Meal.........LOL

Any garden store Dolomitic Lime will do- powdered (fine) is better than pelitized. Espoma makes lime too, but your better off buying a 40 lb bag and keeping it around for future grows.

Each addition has an impact on pH and the key is to try an balance everything out. Bone Meal is acidic, I believe Bone Meal is alkaline. Green Sand is highly acidic. Espoma makes about 4-5 products I'd add to my grows but can't remember the rest. I checked out their web site: http://www.espoma.com/

I also used their Kelp Meal and Rock Phosphate regularly. These with lime, worm castings, pro-mix as my base and perlite I think rounded out my complete mix. Tea's and fish fertilizer later on and I think that covers it.

nice, you're chuck full of useful info sshz, much appreciated again..

quick question, i see they have a pellet garden lime, and you recommended a powdered, would it be ok to buy the pellets and break them up with a hammer or like product to try and make it into more of a powder, or isn't that a really good idea, lol..?

umm, one more question while i have your ear.. i'm sure if i look on the back of the bags, they'll have a dosage range, should i go with that, or do they tend to be like most nutrient co's and give super heavy feed dosages on the back so we use them up sooner?? meaning, should i go with what they say, or say, cut it back by .5 or something along those lines?

Go for the fine lime, not the pelletized. Don't buy Espoma's, just buy a big bag available just about anywhere- it's a lot cheaper. You can crush them up, which I've also done before, and is a pain in the ass as you'll see if you do it.

Since it's organic, I wouldn't be afraid of using Espoma's recommendations, maybe slightly less than their recommendations. It takes a while for them to break down and become available so you may need to add additional nutes before to long (like N, Mg and Ca). That's why I stopped using products like these and switched to Pure Blend Pro (which is organic) by Botanicare. It's easier to give them what they need quickly if some problem arises.
