Anyone try growing sativa under CFLs?

This is at day 86, 45 days flower. Its 45 in tall. Not 100% sativa but close I think.
Along with 5 other plants I used 10 t-12's and 25 CFL's mostly just 23 watters.
If your going to grow sativa indoors, I highly recommend you LST. Half the space and 3 times the yeild. Good luck!

this is mostly satvia topped once and lst took about 12 weeks for it to finish out and about 2 weeks till it was good smoke .

Wow, I am totally trying that. See I want a sativa because its more of a up and around high. Not so couch locking.
Strain does affect that (potentcy) but so does timing of harvest. You can get the high you want from a indica too. Most Sativa strains are harder to grow indoors. Keep doing your homework (read and read some more). That way you can make educated choices and are far more likely to succeed. Most people fail miserably on their 1st attempt at growing. Only because they did not put in the time to read and do it right.
Start by reading thre GROWFAQ, upper left on screen.
That plant (above) was one of 6 females in my 1st grow, I got 7+ ounces of very potent buds. But I did A LOT of reading.
If you put seeds in dirt you can do an awefull lot of reading before they even come up. You obviously have an internet connection. There is no excuse but laziness if you can't have a successful 1st grow. All the info you need is available to you. I still read more and learn more everyday.
Get to it! :)

Yea I know, I've been reading up on HSP's, Hydro, different strains, in soil etc. for the past three months now. I've got my final set up pretty much drawn up the way I think it should/will work and am ready to get the process under way. I'm just trying to learn about CFL and now LST to compare it to the other ways to grow.

I'm a CFL guy myself, but there's one thing i don't quite understand. Why use 25 23w bulbs, and 10 (i'm assuming 55w) T12's? thats 1125w! why not just get a 1000w HPS? I'm not saying that HPS's are better or worse or whatever, but if you're already going to be pumping that much energy, why not put out more lumens? I'm not trying to attck you or anything, i just want to know your reasoning

Sorry about the hijack

Very easy to answer your Q.
I did not have an HID. I used what I had. I spent next to nothing on that grow!! Besides the fact that even If I had an HID it would have been WAY to hot. It It makes you feel better i have an HPS now. Its winter and the heat is now a bonus instead of a nightmare. :)

IGLW and 40055 got up some good pics to show what fluoros can do. I think sativas thrive under low light levels because of competition for light at the equator where they evolved. Sativas and fluoros just seem like a match made in heaven.

I just took a few clones and I'm going to go straight to 12/12 under a 125w CFL. If this works out, I'm going try a bunch more under T5s.

Ummmm no. Sativas require more light than indicas. There is a ton of light at the equator, so that is what they like. There is less light in the higher latitudes where indicas grow. Indicas need less light.

Ummmm ..... you give me K+ for that?

There may be more light at the equator when you're out at sea, but you haven't stopped to consider the rainforest and it substantial canopy. Plants gotta grow 30ft to get their share.

I've grown pure sativas some 5 feet from the nearest lamp with excellent results and quite frankly, I just don't care what you have to say on this subject.

I seem to recall Subcool mentioning how low-light loving plants tend to foxtail when grown with too much light. Maybe you could ask him about that?

I only speak when I know what I am saying.

Sativas are just about the opposite of Indicas. They are tall, thin plants, with much narrower leaves and grow a lighter green in color. They grow very quickly and can reach heights of 20 feet in a single season. They originally come from Colombia, Mexico, Thailand and Southeast Asia. Once flowering has begun, they can take anywhere from 10 to 16 weeks to fully mature. Flavors range from earthy to sweet and fruity. Sativa's higher THC than CBD equals cerebral, soaring type of high, more energetic which can stimulate brain activity and may produce hallucinations.
Sativa plants are taller, take longer to mature, have less chlorophyll and more accessory pigments (accessory pigments protect the plant from excessive sunlight). As Sativa strains have less chlorophyll than Indica they take longer to grow, mature, and REQUIRE MORE LIGHT.

I got out my 125w CFL for inspection and it's fucked. A section of the tubes came loose and it's not as bright as it should be. I'm kinda pissed cuz these things are way too expensive in the first place. I must have been high when I bought this shit.

I'm gonna see how they do under T5s.
