Hey peeps,

anyone put anything over their intake on their light so the bulb doesn't get all dirty? anyone know of any negatives by doing this other than less air flow and possibly the panty hose getting sucked ina burning the house to the ground? I have some zip ties and my light has a little lip on the intake that holds quite nicely.

I've heard this recommended to people before... I rock a bat-wing, so I just have to periodically dust off my bulbs. But the pantyhose filter is a good idea, just make sure its good and secure for all the obvious reasons.

Thanks... I was about to cut up an AC intake filter and HVAC tape it to the thing, but then I cut up some of my old thin boxers...worked pretty good but looked silly...broke down and got some panty hose......very nice. My lamp looks like it could rob a bank or do some other criminal stuff. Rolling hard. Def stopped debri from getting all over the glass pane, having to take it out more often and risk breaking it each time. < Stoner. bongsmilie

Be careful doing this on the cheap! Hardware stores have sheets of air conditioning filters that are 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick for just a couple dollars. One package can be cut up into smaller pieces for years of supply. This allows the filter to do its job without getting plugged up too fast. Pantyhose were designed for a different purpose in mind. I think they would be inefficient for this purpose and cause problems for you down the road.

And yes, my sealed light fixture stays clean with the pre-filter installed. I was more concerned about removing any accumulated sticky debris that would build up in my ducts, inline fan, and carbon filter.

I try to keep cfm's to a max. I generally clean my hoods once every 2 weeks or so, 15 min. no big deal. Sounds like it could be a hazard to me. In the summer months I use pantyhose for my intakes and bugs.

Yes it will work but why when we are basically down in our rooms daily?

Play Safe.
