Anyone explain this?

For some reason every so often this plant grows this mutant kind of knuckle bud instead of the usual colas. They feel kinda crunchy when you squeeze them compared to the usual juicy fat colas. They smell good and they’re sticky but they’re shorter and smaller. Anyone know? The grow seems to be going ok otherwise. btw, the mutant buds are all coming from this one branch above where I’m grabbing

Does the stem it’s growing from appear to be flat or very wide at points?

Could be fasciation?

Wow it does kinda look like that. The stem looks normal, just like all the other stems. Every bud above where I'm grabbing is a mutant, and that is on a couple smaller branches, too. I also see another same type of mutant branch and bud (but smaller) on a sister plant in the same tent, which is a clone from the same mother. Maybe something genetic? I don't see any kind of damage of the stem or the nodes.

Fascination

I’ll always cut those branches off from now on personally, just had 1 in my last run and it never amounted to shit after dry.

It doesn’t carry down to the clones either FYI

Wow totally! Great info, really helpful thanks that does look like my buds. It must be something genetic in this strain cuz i've seen it on sister plants too... I could easily chop those buds off but they'll probably end up in the bubble hash bucket. I won't take the bother to clone them, then thanks!

That plant became my keeper plant from that run. Best terps and great yield. The mother is just a normal plant now after being cloned

I always think the stems look super cool but production usually suffers a bit from my limited experience with fasciation.

Only seen it a handful of times but you get a lot of foliage to cut away to reveal the buds which usually are very oddly shaped lol.
