So I'm supposed to be going to Canada today with my 18+ friends, there's four of them. I'm 17 and don't have real permission from my parents to go haha... but I made a fake permission letter with signatures. Does anyone know if border patrol will actually try to call my parents and if so what they ask?
I have crossed the border many times, but not recently. But start with this info:
1. Burn your phony letter.
2. Use a real ID and don't try and be cute.
3. Baggage checkers at the airport are standup comedians compared to border guards.
4. Have a real US ID on you.
5. They will ask your plans. Tell them the truth. (Like I am going to Windsor to shop and visit for a couple days.)
6. The people you will talk with crossing north are Canadians. People coming south are Americans. The Canadians are nice guys. South are dickheads, so be polite and don't lie to them.
7. Fuck-up one time, and you will never go back. Ever.
8. Call Mom and Dad and tell them the truth before you go. This should be no big deal. You drive over a big long bridge to the other side and pay a small toll.
9. Do not have pot on your body or in your car. On a good day, the border dogs can smell pot in a car from a 100 feet away. I have seen this with my own eyes (I used to drive big-rig trucks across the border).
10. Don't lie to police or border guards. Be polite. You will have a good time.
11. Do not take any weapons. A box cutter or small pocket knife should be fine.
