Anyone else clone with only tap water?

I use to use the powder and plan tap water, then started the clonex gel with ph water trying to go along with alot of other people but the clonex gel would get real thin after a few months so i just went back to plain tap water and no rooting hormone. Everything working good for along time. I did like the rooting powder better than the gel, since it lasted for years, using same bottle just diping clones in it every week.

Did you refrigerate your Clonex?

Lot's of ways to get it done, just gotta find your preference.
I have tested Clonex against Dip N Grow and they both rooted equally well but the Clonex cuts did have an edge in the health department. This was in Rockwool

Tap water only. The only extra thing I have ever done is scrape the base of the stem a bit on some strains that are a bit slow. Speeds them right up so all the clones are ready at the same time.

I also dose the water with some H2O2 every few days to keep it sterile.

The cannabis growing community is riddled with urban myths that are perpetuated by shonky opportunists who want to take people's money for useless products. Other than bamboo, I would say its about the easiest plant to grow in the world.

I use to use the mini dwc with tap water only just to root clones and that worked fine or just fil up a water bottle with tap water and let it sit i just like the faster 2 week max for cuttings using appropriate ph and rooting hormone but if in short in cash def use only tap

Temperature and humidity are the number 1 factor. Temps between 75-80 are ideal above 82 too hot. I have placed many strains together in my cloner many times. While difficulty of rooting is strain dependent, they all eventually break through at a similar 90+% with these conditions. The health of the particular branch that is used as a clone is more important than the entire mother's health IME. I see no need whatsoever to bother using gel. I also became less careful about stuff like razor sharp blades, too much hygiene and such. I use small amounts of H2O2 periodically. As long as i take clean healthy cuttings and placed them in that chamber, they just rooted.

While it isn't necessary, willow water costs nothing if you have trees available. Cloning powders cost a few dollars and are NOT a gimmick, it is taught to use in horticulture classes and definitely improves survival rate

I was the worlds worst cloner until I got an oxy cloner. Now I'm as superstitious a pitcher going into the world series; I don't want to mess with success. :blsmoke:

What worked for me is a dip in clonex gel and a solution with a low level of clonex nute solution and a little mammoth p.

Is it needed? Who knows. It works, and I ain't gonna change. ;)

Is tap just tap ok of course.

Is it optimum for the plant in all parameters

MEH.

though i agree with lots of high priced shit out there that was redesigned from cheap agricultural products.

Although id rather trust a guy with a phd. Then one with out...
..just sayin

I’m not saying powder and gel don’t work I’m saying u don’t need them, I get pretty much 100% survival regardless of using hormone, intact i think the quicker the transition period the better, dipping in gel or powder is just another stage I’d rather miss out tbh

I have to agree, the environment is the deciding factor. I use plain tap water with sodium hypochlorite in. And only clean the blade between mothers.

These three strains are a couple days old. Here's what I did:
  • Clipped the clones at a 45° angle, and scraped the skin of the stock a little near the cut to expose more area for roots to develop
  • Dipped cut and scraped area in RootTech gel
  • Trimmed away lower leaves, and clipped the remaining big fans in half
  • Using 70 ppm tap water in my bubble Cloner filled to an inch or so below the stems
  • 18/6 light schedule using 2 T8s, around 15" away
  • Hovering at 79° and above 50% humidity
Im going to predict that I'll have roots starting in 5 to 7 days

I'll keep you posted

The RootTech gel isn't really necessary for roots to develop, but it does promote faster rooting, and this has been my experience using both methods.

My fastest ever root strike was in 4 days from time i cut till the first nubs about an 1/8 long showed.

To be honest i cant recall what i used.
But it was in an aero cloner.
But at the time.

It was probably dipped in clonex (cant remember if i scraped)
And straight into phed well water at about 150ppm

Now all that said i will say i have personally
Seen a huge difference
In root structure with regular water and a light nute mix im trying.

For me plain water = straight long spaghetti roots

Light nute mix i use = all "fishbone" roots.

Dont know if its a coincidence of not because im not being that scientific.

But i noticed enough of a difference to where im going to at the very least
Throw my clones in light nute solution after root strike .

Im still undecided if the nutes actually
Speed the root strike itself. So i may use straight water in my cloner just to keep it a little cleaner

But immediately transfer into nutrients after roots strike for more lateral formation.

I agree nothing is needed for roots to grow :)

As to the transfer speed.

When i take a cut (if im trying to be nice lol)

I have a cup of water that i get out of my veg res

As soon as i cut it goes into the water 1 sec 2 tops

As soon as it comes out it gets an inch cut off then immediately set in clonex while i get what ever it is ready to put it in.

So basically i dont allow it to get an embolism

But to be fair ive dug a cut out of the trashbin and cloned it a day later just to see.
It did just fine as long as they have a little life in them they will survive lol :)

Again not arguing
Just my two

I wanted to mention that I also do two cuts. One from the mom, and then the 45 degree cut after I've trimmed the clone. I immediately dip in the gel to avoid any air bubbles.
