Any of you guys scuba dive?

its the most relaxing experience in the world while you are underwater. Ive done it am SCUBA certified but wouldnt not say I SCUBA dive just something I did a few times, its a pricey hobby

I've been thinking about getting into that
You should. The cost of the gear can be pretty high but you can usually forego that and just rent it.

Diving is amazing, a wonderful sport you can do for the rest of your life.

The cost and effort of certification is not that high, and you get to experience a totally different world. We are chomping at the bit until we can get our little dude in a snorkel and some fins.

Go to Utila with a few thousand bucks and a couple of months off, and by the time you leave, you will be a professional diver. If you don't have kids, this means selling your car and quitting your job. You actually can do it. You get to Utila with at a minimum $3k and you will finish a DM (including a place to crash, food and alcohol) with no gear. If you want help getting good deals on gear, I can point you in the right direction, don't be afraid to buy used. I recommend Aqualung regs and a Zoop computer, for everything else Mares is excellent for the price but fit is the most important. If it fits, it's the right piece of gear.

Don't waste money on a GoPro and again, don't be afraid to buy used.

We have a dive rescue team on the dept I was on.
It wasn't for me,

i think if I had went to a dive class in clear water it may have made the difference.

Not being able to see and being under water, I washed out .

Give me high angle any day. Under water I am a puss.

If these cats can do it you can too.

I am NAUI and IDEA certified.

I have not been on a dive in a few years. My wife has trouble equalizing so she does not dive any longer.
After she stopped going with me I never felt like breaking in a new dive buddy.
That's what I'm afraid of, and why I've never done it. Shit, my brain hurts when I just go to the bottom of a swimming pool.
A know quite a few people who learned it and got certified in monterey, and I never hear of them ever going out anytime recently. Like, not in the last twenty years recently lol

Did years with SCBA but never tried SCUBA. Would love to but not too many places to use it here in the Midwest. Not too much clear water.
Someday, when I figure out how to steal a few million and fake my own death, end up somewhere tropical.

How much does a decent wet suit insulate you? I know the stuff we used in Fire was more of a gumby suit, not wetsuit. How long could a guy go in say 60f water?

depends. In a 7mm wetsuit an hour would be doable if you wore a hood. Probably longer. Maybe 45 minutes in a 5mm. Much less in a 3.

Most of your heat escapes through your head.
