Ants

I have three plants out side and ants travel on the top of the soil often. I have not seen any holes in my plants soil but could these ants be a threat?

when I lived in the south US I had fire ants eat a plant 1 time they ate a hole in the base and killed it in days it was FULL of ants from the bottom to top..sad part is it was about 9' tall and 6' across big giant bush and just started budding about 3 weeks before they killed it...

I think I will get some bug spray.
