Ambitious Noob - Single Colas from Seed & Mothers

Hey guys,

Got a few grows under my belt. I've done full on chem nute schedule on some clones, and I've done supersoil from seed with LST. Both times growing large plants in a tight space.

Well I'm sick of doing that, lol. I have a whole bunch of breeder seed packs sprouting now. I want to do two things and am looking for input....

First, I'd like to grow these plants in much smaller pots, and go for just single lil colas like you see from a sea of small clones. I've read up some and there seems to be a couple ways to go about it, which I would like advice on...
  • Lighting - I have a nice south and east facing corner with windows. Is the window light plus a couple T5 tubes sufficient to veg some mini gals?(I have HID or LEDs to use for flower)
  • Force Flowering - Some stuff I read said put them into 12/12 before it gets 5 nodes OR while its still under 8 inches. This would be well before sexual maturity on the seedlings, input?
  • Pruning - Other stuff said to prune out the lower branches, I get very confused, esp with young vegging plants, on what branches are what. In my experience, those first few sets of real branches are the largest outside of the main stem, for single cola you cut these off early? Any good pics/diagrams to help me? I'm very visual learner.
  • Pots - What are the "smallest" pots I should try to use? I have several 3qt and 1gal(.66gal) pots, about 6" rims.
  • Medium/Feeding - First, I LOVED the supersoil, only giving it water and molasses was so nice after using 12 part solutions or whatever, lol. Gonna try adding Veganic Special Sauce once a week this time. Thoughts/Inputs?

Second, I'd like to take a couple of these and veg them out to use for cuts over the next 3-4 months. Pretty much the same questions here, but...

  • Lighting - Is the window & small T5 good for keeping 1-4 mothers for 6mo or more?
  • Pots - How big should I use? And obliviously I should up-can it right? Don't wanna put the seedling directly in a 5 gal airpot
  • Pruning - I'm having trouble finding good info on this, esp visuals. I have a decent amount of space for them, but am unsure how to prune and keep them, also unclear on exactly how the cloning process works(IE which clones are the best and how to prune for them)
  • Medium/Feeding - I've read a lil about this but again, a bit unclear. I wanna stay away from chem ferts, but don't think supersoil would be good for a mother. Was thinking something like PM-BX or SAM4? But then I'd have to add some kind of liquid nutes right? Are there any "just add water" type solutions for mothers?

Thanks for any input!!!

Hey dude smallest I've done was in 7.5L pots grown as single colas . So can't really help with regards to going smaller.
In terms of pruning there's various things that can be done.
If you want purely cola on a stick and no lower branches just trim off the branches that grow out.
If you've got loads of space don't bother.
I always top my plants so if I need clones ill use the tips but you can successfully clone any branch from the plant with relative ease.
As far as the T5 goes i use one and its freakin amazing for early development, the lights can touch the plants and not burn them just make sure the plants are right underneath it.

Thanks for the feedback...

I've decided to veg them all for a few weeks under a T5 fixture in the 1 gal pots with some base and a tiny bit of supersoil. Then transplant into 2 gal pots with supersoil when I switch em to 12/12.

Also picked up 4 five gallon air pots. Gonna keep a few in veg under the T5 and use them for clones once the first set has flowered.

Still looking for input on my post btw guys!! Much appreciated.

Hey guys, the title post was I guess a lil too much. Basically the main question I still have is...

Can I take 4 decent sized (4-5 node) seedlings(currently in #1 pots) and transplant them into 5-gal air-pot with TGA Supersoil? or is that gonna be too hot for the moms? Plan on feeding only artisan well water and veganic special sauce.
