Almost time to begin flower....first grow. Any suggestions?

What's up yall....I've got a few questions about switching from veg to flower. I'm on Day 30 of veg. I've got 7 plants going indoor under air-cooled hoods 1 600 watt MH & 1 600 watt HPS @18/6. 5 gallon pots w/ Sunshine #4 soil-less mix. General Hydroponics Flora series nutes. Plants are all 14-16" tall. With the light at it's highest point- the plant would touch the glass @ 56". Obviously i wont have them that close- but

-how tall can i grow my plants without damaging them and/or depriving them of adequate light?
-Is it the standard 16" away or can i go taller?
-When would be the optimum time for me to begin flower?

-any other tips on switching from veg to flower are greatly appreciated...thx! :bigjoint:

16 is safe. If you have good ventilation and circulation you can get away with less but I wouldn't plan on using it.

I have had good success with inches away from the light, just keep an eye on the temps. If they are getting too close you can tie them down. As for timing, I usually go with the coolest time of day to have the lights on. good luck!
