No, definitely not!
Stay clear of any vendor or 90W UFO that claims to replace a 300W HID. Any reputable vendor knows it's not true .
There are some good options for UFOs that work well and won't completely break the bank. I like
Gotham Hydro (ebay), and
hydroponicshut.com. Both offer good lights at a fair price. Be sure to see if there are any LED vendors that sponsor RollitUp.
Things to look for are:
- CREE LEDs - Best on the market, Bridgelux is a second best.
- Narrow angle lens, a 60º - 90º provides a focused area of light that allows for good penetration below the canopy. The trade off is that they have a smaller foot print than a UFO with a 120º lens. Though I do have a UFO that has 120º CREEs, it's decent for supplemental light for flowering.
- Lumens should fall in the 4800 - 6800 range (if listed at all)
- Make sure the vendor offers a warranty, and that it is handled in the US.
Expect to use 1 UFO per Plant, 3 UFOs per 2 plants is better though.
