Technically he was a free agent and the suns could match any offer but they are headed into rebuilding mode. Nash asked for this trade as a favor to him from the Suns. He wanted to be close to his daughters who live and were born here in Phoenix. The Suns said " ok because you gave us a lot of good years " he was traded for draft picks a first round 2013 and 2015 pick and two second round pics 2013/2015
