Algae maintenance

I noticed some algae, which really looks like moss, growing in one of the hydroponic buckets. I heard putting more hydroton would help so the top won't get wet from the drip loop. Is there a reason I shouldn't cut a cover out of my white reflective tarp and place it above my growing medium? It would be block light from the algae and reflect it back at the bottom side of the plant that doesn't receive much light anyway. I'd rather not use toxic chemicals.

sounds like a good idea with the tarp .. no light = no algae .. maybe a little h2o2 to clear up what algae you have and stop more.. just an opinion

happy growin

if the algae is only on top of your hydroton from the drip , then the covering will get rid of that ..as for h2o2 i just add 1/2 tsp / gal to the rez ,but ask around there are lots of threads about it .. sorry couldnt be of more help

happy grown
