Alcohol Tincture - Extract using Grain or ISO?

Hello all,

I have been experimenting with tinctures lately, and I am happy with my results so far.. Although I can't help but wonder if I am doing things a little backwards?

I have access to 94% grain alcohol from the liquor store, and I have been using this alcohol for extraction. I then reduce the alcohol until I reach the potency I am looking for.

I also have access to 99% iso alcohol, and I am curious as to whether or not I can extract using 99% iso, create oil, and then add 94% grain alcohol to dilute.. Creating my tincture?

I can get 1L of 94% grain for $100, but 4L of 99% iso is only $30.. Anybody with experience or first hand knowledge have any input?

Yep you can totally do that, I suggested it to someone last wek!

Qwiso is my favorite way to make oil because it's easy and cheap. You can make a very clean tasty extract with it. I usually do 2-3 washes so the A grade tastes and dabs the best and the B is still very decent but not as tasty or smooth. C grade is perfect for edibles but really is still dabable in a pinch ;). There is a tutorial posted on page 134 of my thread in my signature at the bottom I this post. It's the process I use for qwiso to try to get the best results.

Anyway if you take the finished qwiso and then redissolve in a little everclear bingo tincture :). I'm not sure how you normally do your extraction but I would bet if you get the process down right you could get a much tastier tincture too!

Its federally illegal to consume, smoke, grow, etc. Not sure where your legal comes into play.

Thanks.
Federal authorities have made it clear that they will not prosecute cases in which local state laws are being followed. States rights still exist in america. It is legal in the state i live to grow marijuana not to distill alcohol, but hey misinformation is fun.

AKA you WILL go to JAIL where i live for distilling alcohol, but noone gives a fuck if u grow 6 weed plants.....thats where the legality comes from

Excluding the Feds, who hate us all, the legality of solvent extraction depends on where you are located and your circumstance.

Oregon for instance now requires a permitted and licensed facility using certified equipment.

Prior to passing those laws, we extracted legally under the OMMP medical cannabis rules with just certified equipment outdoors.

uhhh well i should have been more clear i guess, in almost every country i know of distilling is illegal, many of us are growing marijuana perfectly legally.
Distilling for the purpose of drinking and cheating the tax man is illegal, but there is some wiggle room in the laws regarding stills under one gallon, those used in labs, and those used in essential oil extraction.

It isn't illegal to distill for drinking purposes, you just have to permit and license the facility, keep onerous records, and pay the tax man.

Permitting a facility can be an issue, as zoning and fire suppression come into play.
