Air pump questions....too powerful?

Im currently setting up a 6x container dwc setup, 6x plants per container.

The containers are 68litre total capacity (408 litre for the 6x containers), but they wont be full to the top obviously.
Im using 1x 36" air curtain per container.

Im trying to figure out the size of pump needed for the whole 6x container grow.

I read here about a small formula for working out pump size needed which i worked out to be around 53 litres/hour for the whole grow. But some people say 1w per gallon which would mean I need 107watts of power for the whole grow. So im confused

I was looking at this pump here its 110l/min 112w power. Will this be overkill, considering the containers wont be filled to the top?

Any advice on what size pump would be perfect. Also are the 36" air curtains enough for those containers? And to finish, what happens if I have say double the size airpump that i needed, will it still be ok to use or would that damage roots etc?

Nah...won't hurt the roots.

I found those air curtains/bubble wands to require ALOT of air to work properly. They're very restrictive too, made my pump run hot. You may want to try cheap air stones instead.

Eh student121...go back to school...that pump is not even half the size of the one the OP is looking at.

You reckon theyd be ok with the powerful pump though? I might try add some airstones aswell with the 110 lpm pump as it comes with a 12 outlet splitter so I can try 2x airstones/curtains per container.

hi there u need pump like this one 6 outlets and can do 6 buckets..... very powerful pump

They are less flow than the one I linked to above, i dont think they will be enough. Thanks for the link anyway.

You can never have too much air .. i have a big ass 12 port manifold air pump my water looks like bubbles with waves and the plants love it ... Too many bubbles is a good thing.

hi there red twat its better to have 2 medium size pumps than 1 big pump if ur 1 big pump goes down well ur up shit creek kidda
so u go back to school my friend..............................think before u speak king.........if ur run two medium size pumps u can have 2 air stones in each bucket plus add 1 airstone to 1 pump and the other airstone to the other pump so if u do have a pump go down u still got bubbles

What pump is it? the one i linked is also a 12 port manifold model.

how loud is it?

i might have to find a way of reducing the noise of the pump i get, somehow

The exact same one you were looking at its not that loud but I have a couple doors shut and you can just hear it buzzing not too loud at all. Some people tie them from the ceiling to make them quieter.. I use that one big ass pump for 3 5 gallon buckets in one gallon I have four 6'' air stones and the other 3 I have three six inch air stone and the water splashes around and the plants love it. I even have 2 extra ports on mine but dont use them I use the other smaller 6 port manifold for the other plants. Dude get it your plants will love it trust me...

:-P

First two are in 5GA team water jugs 2nd two are in a cooler (the moms) all thanks to Canna's Rhizotonic

But seriously if you don't see good bubbles get a new pump. I have noticed one of my coolers isn't producing adequate bubbles. So I went out and bought two more pumps. Both have dual outlets. I took one aerator and placed a line to the AK48 and another to the WW and did the same thing with the other pump, that way if one pump dies then the other will pump air into each reservoir until I notice one has failed. I check my plants every 12 hours.

I should have taken pictures last night of my root balls in flower.. They would elbow drop most other root balls ( I guess if you Veg for 9 weeks its expected)

For every 1 gallon of reservoir, you want 1/2 watt of air pump power. 55 gallon res's work best with the 24w Eco-Air pumps as an example. GL!

I'll either go with a single 120 L/min pump or 2x 60's.

I like the idea of 2x 60's with 6 outlet manifolds on them, that means 2x airstones/curtains in each container and if one pump goes down il still have 1x airstone going in each container. However price might make me just get the 120 l/min pump as its cheaper than 2x pumps.

Does it need any maintenence?

Is that the minimum? I was told 1w per gallon.

Hell no it doesnt need any maintenance you just leave it on running 24/7 ..I bought mine from my local grow store because if it breaks you just take it back with the receipt and exchange. Dude just trust me get that big ass one your plants will love you for it remember YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY BUBBLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
