Air Pots - Sitll need to add perlite?

So, given the instructions from air pots to pack the soil good and not to worry because "There is plenty of air in an air-pot", and that they are going to drain like crazy...

If using FFOF or something similar, is there really a need to go 50/50 on it?

As a sort of secondary question, I wonder how mixes that already have good drainage work with the air pots, such as advanced mix 4.

you could use less perlite with the airpots
but the FFOF is still too hot for alot of auto's in the germ/seedling stage

By too hot, I assume you mean it is too nutrient rich? Would you recommend mixing it with something?

I was actually panning on germinating in jump start pellets and moving to 4" pots containing black gold cactus mix until the seedling starts to "take off".... We've talked about this some in my other thread, and you advised against transplanting as much as I'd planned, but for the sake of argument, will the black gold also be too much for the seedling?

just regular seed starter works fine a $1.50 bag of it does 4-5 pots or so if you use a party cup to measure it out
have no experience with the black gold

but yes perlite is often used to cut the soil down so its not so rich
i use coco/soil/perlite
as the main mix and add worm castings and dolomite lime to the mix

I use black gold I would say mix it in 1:4 BG to ffof if you are going to use it like that maybe 1:1 if you are going to mix in goodies. and yes you should still add perlite esp. with ffof it settles and gets quite dense .... about half way through my grows with it. the perlite will help keep it fluffy/ less dense.
