Agromax UV-A "Plus" .... What's the scoop on these?

So I had seen these bulbs on HTG's website and was always curious about them, so when I was in there earlier today to get some nutes and stuff I decided to pick one up (4' 54w) to throw in a single bulb fixture as a supplement during flower. Right now I'm running a mix of 75% 3000k bulbs and 25% of the agromax pure par bulbs.

I tried finding some info on these UV-a bulbs but I wasn't able to find anything meaningful like reviews or spectrum charts, and it appears agromax no longer has a website with product info? The description on HTG says these bulbs are mostly 10k with the UV-a part of the spectrum added, but I was curious if there was any UV-b in these bulbs at all? Am I just wasting power and space in my tent by running this extra bulb if there's no UV-b, or will the UV-a benefit the plants enough to warrant keeping it?

This is the bulb in question: http://www.htgsupply.com/products/agromax-4-foot-t5-uv-a-plus-bulb

I considered grabbing one of the agromax "Pure UV" bulbs, but from what I have read, these bulbs need to be around 24-36" away from the plants to prevent cooking them. To get that kind of distance I would have to place the "pure uv" bulb higher than my main t5 fixture, which would mostly obstruct the uv bulb.

I have found that adding 6% UV-A to my spectrum produced a noticeable improvement in taste and potency/ for UV-B you may need reptile lights but I have not played with those yet. that bulb has a lot of UV-A so one should be enough for an 8 bulb fixture. I use roseate bulbs to get deep red and UV http://www.ebay.com/itm/261229975287?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=560206106299&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT and just mix them with 6500k bulbs and my last harvest produced 0.83 gpw. of high quality bud.to much UV will require bulb to be placed to far from the plants. I run my lights as close as 3 inches from the plant without burning but get faster growth with them 8 inches above the plants. hope this was helpful. good luck with your grow

Thanks for the quick reply! That is what I like to hear, at least I didn't waste money on the bulb then. Right now I have the UV-A bulb as a horizontal side light just below the main fixture. The tent is 2' wide so the farthest leaves are around 22" from the light, and the closest are about 2-3" from the light. Do you think the bulb is too close to the closest plants? I haven't heard of UV-A causing major damage like the UV-B bulbs do, but I want to make sure. I'm also running the UV-A on the same light schedule as the main fixture (12/12).

I just recently started using the Agromax 10K UV-A bulbs so I dont have much experience with them. I do know that if you were to get anything with UV-b then you would either need to put those on a seperate timer or have them a good distance from the plant as not to burn them. The UV-A's dont need to be on a timer or placed very far from the plants. My last run with the UV-A's the plants seemed to really like it in conjunction with My 1K HPS'. I ran the agromax the entire flower period. I guess the UV bulbs are good for PM issues as well.

I just picked up a 4 pack of them, im going to attempt to grow with 4 of them and 4 6500k in a 8 bulb fixture. So that gets me about 432 watts, which now that i write it out, seem like a lot for a 4x2 space.

Shit sorry I forgot to reply back to this thread! Good to hear you are having good luck so far with these bulbs so far, have you seen a noticeable difference in bud quality/yield after you added the uv-a bulbs?

You'll have to let me know how it works out for you, I'm thinking of adding a second uv-a bulb to my tent, which is also 4x2. Right now I have the one bulb horizontal on the door side facing towards the back and across the canopy, I might add a second 1 bulb fixture to the back side as well. I will try to get a picture tomorrow when the lights turn back on.

This is actually my first grow but I'm pleased with how things are going so far, I snapped this picture of one of the buds earlier today which marked day 23 of flower.

I only run one in a 8 bulb unit.

I use agromax bulbs.

2-veg, 2-bloom, 2-pure par, 1-10,000k+uva and one random bulb at the moment.

I noticed a bump in potency. Helps prevent pm along with air flow and good humidity.

So after 8 months and a handfull of grows since my last reply....I don't know how I hadn't stumbled onto the UV-A Agromax bulbs sooner. Thanks @whitebb2727 for pointing me in the right direction.
Still using them start to finish in flower room using a singe 4' for each 1KW HID.
I have been growing the same strain of GG4 for about a year and a half or so (also run before using UV-A) and I've noticed a spike in trichome production from the same strain now using the Agromax UV-A.
Im ready to replace the bulbs in the next day or two since it is a solid investment and owns its place in my grow rooms now.
Absolutely recommend it.

Nice! Glad they are working out.

I'm going to add one back to my cab. I'm running leds but it could use a uva bulb.

Actually, both of the sets of pictures are from LED grows.
Same lights, flood table system, feed chart etc for both grows.
I have a grow or two with the UV-A's paired with my HPS too that finished nicely. Nothing to compare side by side like I can with the GG4 though.
Ill be switching back over to HPS after this heat wave is done here in MI.

Hows your temps in the cab with the LED?
