aeroponics roots are submerged =/

my roots are in the res. is it possible to trim/cut roots? or should i just use a airpump/airstones?

Which of those do you think is the better option? Being told which is one thing, understanding why is another. One of them will shock the plant and slow growth (how bad) depending on growth stage.. The other costs $10 total and will not.

It's always nice to have more oxygenation!
