AeroGarden Settings

Just bought an aerogarden and I'm totally psyched. I had a few questions, though. What's the best setting? Herbs? or Garden Greens? Also, is it a better idea to germinate the seeds first, or just go ahead and toss some in the little foamy dirt things?

This is my first time attempting to grow anything, and I have no idea wtf i'm doing.

korvette, did you just leave it like that through the life of the plant? I mean, how do you start flowering. Sorry if it is an ill-informed question, but I'm about to buy a pro 100 and trying to have as little hiccups as possible.

Man you going to have to read up on the AeroGardens / growing a little more before you go any further. To answer you question tho, you will need a timer to hook your AG to on a 12/12 cycle, along w/ supplemental lighting, airstones, etc..etc...blah, blah, blah. Don't get me wrong, they are great in my opinion to get you started but you will want to invest in a (diY) system at maybe half the cost for thrice the yield for future purposes. But do more homework and that will help with your hiccups.

FYI use the Growfaq, it will be your best friend, trust me. Then if you are still confused, don't hesitate to ask, but I don't think no experience grower on this forum is going to break down every detail for you when the information is posted and organized as it is on here, plus I don't mean to sound harsh, just wanna save you time / hiccups

They are known for their ease of use / stealth / and set it and forget it qualities, not so much a big yielder. If you don't modify the height of the hood, then you are forced to keep everything really short and tied down. It also has a lot to do with the genetics of the strain you are using, so in a nut shell, very tough question to answer.

I disagree sorry, the info on this site is argumentative & confusing & certainly not organised.
People try & post logs of their efforts only to have every man & his dog hijacking the thread & rendering it useless at 400 pages long for no apparent reason.
I see time & time again people saying "oh I put it on the 24/7 setting" etc wtf is the 24/7 setting I dont have anything that says 24/7?
Im getting quite annoyed with my AG to be honest coz damned if I can find out how to set the lights & water at 24/7 the bloody things keep turning off all the time & now my seedlings are turning to shite.
The only options I have on mine are : Tomatoes/peppers, salad greens, herb/basil, flowers & strawberry.
Sorry for ranting abit but I really think this info could be alot easier to find.

*still looking*

P.s I have seen the changes where you can use a different power source to run the lighting, is this maybe the only way to run 24/7 lights or is there a setting please?

STU,

Which aerogarden are you using?...search key terms over in the F.A.Q. (frequently asked questions) section they will be your best friend.

I have the pro 200 Aerogarden.

The 24 hour light setting is achieved by selecting "Strawberries" setting and press and hold until the selection light flashes.

maybe you should read a fucin thread for once, your not gonna get any where crying like a baby, first off, you need a damn fig 8 cord to connect to the AG hood to control the lights, the settets are jus for the pump once you do that, leave it salad greens or tomatoes, trust me when i say the best way you are going to lean is to completely read a thread and put it into your own words, if you dont do that like you did, you end up with shitty plants and coming an here yellin at everyone one else, i did months and months of reading before i even started, that jus me but the you get the point, any of yall got any questions feel free to ask, i have helped alot of people intrested in the AG, its not that hard,

I have a Pro200 as well. There is NO 24 hr light setting on any AeroGarden. What you're talking about is turning the lights off at a specific time by readjusting the time cycle. You can call AG customer service if you doubt me. www.aerogarden.com

from the AG site:

How to Set the On Or Off Time

The AeroGarden is pre-programmed to optimize the hours of light that your plants need, and is adjusted to match the Seed Kit you are growing when you set the Select button. While the total number of hours that the lights are on during every 24 hours is preset, the time of day that it comes on (OR the time it goes off) can be chosen and set by you.

You can set the AeroGarden to start (OR end, but not both) its 24-hour cycle when you want, by following one of the procedures below:

Actually on the Deluxe model that I have you can over ride the light setting It is called Super Grow on page 62, you can over ride it for 24 hours on.

Sounds like your the one whinging more than me Mr Spellingbee. I have read plenty which is indicated in my thread. Also indicated that I was still reading more threads.
Im sure as with everything in life once you have the answers the questions are always easy. Im sorry if you took offence to my post it wasnt meant to offend, I just
found this site as a newb, quite confusing as for every post to suggest something is best theres another to say something else. I guess there are no real concrete answers to alot of the questions perhaps.

Ok so sounds like the answer to my question is yes the Only way to get 24 hour lighting is to use the external timer (for my model at least).
I think another thing to take into consideration here is it seems there are different models with slightly different functions also as mentioned in some replies here.

Thanx cale123, I am using just the basic black AG I dont think it has another name sorry Im not sure.
Ive tried holding the strawberry option & it did flash etc so will see how that goes cheers.
