AeroGarden Grow - Start To Finish

Welcome to my AeroGarden grow,

I'm doing this to see what kind of product an AeroGarden can produce without using any extra light.

I'll be growing some Jack Herer from Sensi Seeds. I planted my (3) un-germinated seeds in the AG about an hour ago so this will truly be a start to finish journal. I'll be using my AG, a $9 air pump with a small air stone, distilled water and nutrients. I'll be using my Flora Nova nutes instead of what comes with the AG. I'll only be using 3 of the 7 spots in the AG for obvious space issues. I'll be vegging under 24hr light until I switch to 12/12.

If you are going to try an AG grow yourself, you will need a "figure 8" power cord from radio shack and a timer for when you switch the plants over to 12/12. There's a 24hr setting on my AG so I won't need it until then.

Please ask questions that only pertain to this journal...Thanks

I'll be watching ^_^
I also have an aerogarden and I've already had a successful grow in it. But I had additional lighting so I'll be interested in seeing what you can produce! Be sure to keep us updated with LOTS of pics and info preeze!?!
G/L bro! Any questions you might have about using the AG feel free to ask!

Thanks for checking it out. I'll post lots of pics and I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions for you since I know nothing. Oh and I made a big mistake when starting this grow, I thought I used my Afghani #1 seeds but when I pulled out all of my seeds last night to give a few of them to a buddy of mine, I realized I used my Jack Herer seeds my mistake...oops. They were also from Sensi Seeds.

I should have some sprouts in a day or two. I checked them out and could see the tap root on it's way down on all 3 of them. Someone told me good seeds take longer to sprout then bag seed and that is proving to be true.

It took almost four days but I finally have 3 little Jack Herer babies. I'll try to post pics every other day or close to every other day. They sprouted this morning (day 4 from being planted), so we'll say they're 4 days old today.

I forgot to mention that I didn't use the provided AG sponges to start my seeds. I cut 3 small pieces of rockwool to fit in the AG and used that instead.

Here are some pics of my 6 day old Jack Herer seedlings. They're off to a slow start but they look good.

Ahhh, an AG grow...I'm interested in this...

What do you guys do when these fuckers start to get bigger?

The light is adjustable up to 24 inches. After they get taller than 24", I'll disconnect the light hood from the base and hang it above the plants. That's what I've seen done in several AG journals.

I just moved the plants in my AG to the front row which puts them directly next to each other and also puts each one of them directly under one of the 3 bulbs. I took the light hood off and lowered it down to 2" above the tops of the plants. I just set it on some shot glasses and it works great. Maybe they won't stretch out on me now. As soon as they grow a little, I'll move them back to the spots they were in to spread them out & give them more room to grow. Too bad I didn't think to do this when I planted the seeds, they probably wouldn't have taken 4 days to sprout.

hey i was thinking of gettin an aerogarden too and i wanted to make sure it would work b4 droppin a buck fifty. you said you used an extra light, im just kinda curious about your setup and what you used for nutes.

Here is my effort: 4 weeks out. 2 seeds in each of the central 3 pods. Lights set on the 'tomato setting' - 16 hours on and 8 off so far. using the nutrients supplied. i'm on filtered well water. otherwise, nothing else added nor taken away - it's all natural. (the outer 4 pods contain the herbs which came with the kit, eg basil chives and mint)
They are about 8-10 inches high and i only have 1 or 2 more notches to get to maximum height of the lights.
not sure when to start changing the timing to encourage flowering or how best to do it to 'fool' the internal clock or just use a standard timer attached to the power supply?
It sounds like i need to go to 12 hours on and 12 off - any tips out there from the experts?
should i trim the leaves back?

Well I'm surely no expert considering I'm in the middle of my first grow ever, but I will try to help. You will need an external timer to switch your lights over to 12/12 and when you do you should keep the AG set on salad greens so the pump stays running 24hrs (In order to use the external timer, you need a "figure 8" power cord from radio shack that lets you plug the light directly into the timer - sony playstation uses the same power cord.) Also, you only want one plant growing from each pod you use on the AG.

As far as when to flower, it's really up to you. You can Veg them for a long time and flower them when they're big monsters or you can flower them when they're small. Just keep in mind that they're gonna double to tripple in size by the time they're done flowering so if your growing in an AG like me, you want to flower when they're small.

Yea, what he said..^^

I'd let them get to be a foot tall or so...then flower...

Take good care of it, don't treat them bad...and you will probably yield more.

:joint:

thanks for the tips. will give the timer a go and start the flower mode - will drop you a line in a couple of weeks with a pic or 2.

cheers

looks cool, i am very interested, i would say that when they get big, you should add a couple of cfl's arounf the sides to encourage side growth

oh yeah....... what spectrum is that light?

you should buy one in the 2700k range
