AeroGarden Grow Experiment

Well, this is my first time around growing weed. Never really considered doing it until I lost my connect when I moved, so now I can only get regs.

So anyways, bought the AeroGarden and didn't initially think about using it to grow with until the other plants that came with it died.

So ripped them all out and planted a seed from a bag of mids that I had germinated.

It died after about a week on the Herb setting w/ their nuts.

Then realized that mold killed that one so I tried again this time making sure the pod was covered.

Plant fell over and died after about 2 weeks.

Now I have researched enough to know the following:

1. Use fox farm or other nuts, not AeroGardens
2. Change the water on a regular basis (every 5 days)
3. Get a ph tester
4. Get one 42w cfl per each plant
5. Run lights 18 on 6 off when vegging a plant, when flowering 12/12
6. Get fan since I'm growing in the closet

I now have all those items so I'm going to start a new plant once I get some seeds germinated, hopefully by Sunday.

Any other main points anyone can add?

Thx for the input...

Add an exhaust, carbon scrubber, thermometer, PPM meter, oh and ditch the aerogarden. :)

Nothing to show yet except an empty "garden".

Waiting on my seeds to germ, two look almost ready to plant.

This whole setup sucks to some extent, however since I didn't buy it to grow weed, I guess I can't complain.

Since I live in a rented house, this will have to do for now...

If you're going to use an Aerogarden then you will get better performance if you stick an airstone in the solution. These units have a reputation for brown, rotting roots which is typically caused by a lack of dissolved oxygen in the solution. Use a "Whisper" series of air pump for quiet performance. This should greatly help with your rot problem.

Just realized that I don't have nutrients...and no head shops in the vicinity...

Can anyone suggest some alternative that I can get from Walmart? I've read the other threads about nutrients but what I saw was more related to planting in soil. When the talk goes about hydro or aero specific nutrients, all people talk about is fox farm...

You should only use fertilizers that are intended for hydroponic systems. Although the cheap soil fertilizers have the macro nutes (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) they will not have the various micro nutrients needed for soiless growing. You'll have to order them by mail if there's no grow shop nearby and Walmart will not have what you'll need. (Sorry dude!).

I use "General Hydroponics" brand of fertilizers although it's just personal preference.

go to Hydroponics they have everything you will ever need for growing with an aerogarden. Im using the aerogarden too right now. check out pics if u want
Thanks for the link, looks like they have pretty good deals and about everything you can want like u said.

This looks like a good start: FoxFarm Grow Big Liquid Concentrate for only $14

Then again, I really don't know if thats a good price since I'm new to this game :)

I tried that setting for my first two go arounds w/ no luck...

That may have been due to not cleaning out the tank first, or changing the water a regular cycle...

Picked up a 32oz bottle of Fox Farm Grow Big 6-4-4.

Tossed the seeds that I did have sprouted b/c I got a batch of hi grade seeds.

Started those sprouted today

I now have a total of 4 seeds that germinated after being stored in a dark cup of water for about 3 days

I planted 2 on 7/12 and the others on 7/15.

No activity yet from the ones I planted on 7/12.

Anyone body on the average time for the seed to start to sprout?

I took some pics but really nothing to show. I'll take more pics when the seeds start to sprout and I'll post the pics of the garden I took when I planted the first seeds on 7/12

Well, my operation is over before it even got started...

Had to toss the sprouting seeds and clean house b/c this morning my next door neighboors house was raided and cops are crawling over the freaking place...

Thank god I'm moving in a month...then I'll be able to start again.
