best AG unit out? same 24'' extension and delux grow bulbs as the pro 200 and the dulux model, but it also has a air pump giveing it direct oxygenation (better than useing air stones?).

anybody else have comments on this AG unit? anybody use one?

i will be ordering this unit and some autoAK47 seeds in the next couple of days, i will be looking forward to typing up my grow journal!

So I have some really mixed feelings about the AG systems. First off, you need to understand that with an AG, your water res is less than one gallon. This is REALLY small if you want more than .5 to 1.5 ounces of dried bud. Root mass is directly related to bud mass. The AG is a very good unit for first time growers wanting to hit the "easy button" and getting something (if not much) to smoke. This is not to say that I don't have an AG myself. The wife and I bought three of them years ago to provide ourselves with food. It wasn't until later that I even thought to use one to grow weed.

My conclusions after trying to grow with an AG was that it is doable, and worth it if you already own one. However, I would not buy one for the purpose of growing weed. You can make an equivalent setup (in price) that can still fit in a closet but can out-perform the AG by at least three fold on bud output.
If you are set on buying an AG, what you have chosen is about as good as you need (although a seven port AG would have a larger res). I wouldn't suggest using the AG nutes, it can be done but they aren't the best solution for growing weed. Buy some nutes online that you can add instead of what they provide. If however, you see the light in wanting to build your own system... a good post here on RUI to go by for directions would be this one:

I myself still use an AG to start my plants, once the roots reach down into its res I then move them into my home-made system to maximize my output. DWC is just as stealth and closet capable as the AG, plus its cheaper and produces more. Hope this helps you a bit.

P.S. This is not a dig on people who have successfully used the AG and are happy with it. I also understand that some strains of marijuana (i.e. dwarf auto flowering plants) do well with the AG because they are small plants anyway so they can't put out as much as regular indica and sativa plants.

i am a first time grower, im mainly doing it this way because the space im working with is limited and im only looking on growing for personals. the auto AK47 claims 30-40 grams a plant which is enouph. i will probibly only be growing 2-3 plants at a time.

i figured its a good way for me to gain experiance until i can devote more money and space!

The auto AK47 should do fine in your AG, two plants will probably be fine as well. However, more than that and you will still run into issues with the size of your water reservoir. The air pump in there will do fine vs. an air stone, they do the same job. If your concern is closet space, either of the links I gave you work fine for closet grows, I can fit two or three 5gal reservoirs in a closet no problem, remember its always better to have more space in the res than you need...if you don't have enough it can be detrimental to your project.

Since you plan on growing in the AG though, you will need some supplemental lighting. The AG lights only put out about 1700Lumens (lumens are a measurement of light output and are what you really need to look at for your grow project). This will be fine to produce buds, however to maximize your yield with a grow space for an AG you will want to have about 3000Lumens of light. This can be achieved by adding (depending on size) one or two CFL's to a light timer. Remember, if you buy CFL's, and you can get them from walmart, you HAVE to get ones that specifically say they output the daylight spectrum, most CFL's produce "soft white" light spectrum, which is regular indoor lighting, this will still provide necessary light, but not the full spectrum that the sun produces. One 1500Lumen daylight CFL will cost you like five bucks....and its definitely worth it.

thanks for the info bro. very much appreciated. i knew i was gunna have to produce more lumens, but i didnt know how many cfls i was going to have to purchase.

as far as nutes go, should i just use the nutes i got from the AG kit or should I use other nutes?

thanks!
