Hey guys,

I'm writing to ask about the use of a charcoal/carbon filter.

I want to place a filter in my room, which is a basement bedroom, it has no grow tent, or grow walls. I'm running a 400 watt hps. So far heat is not a issue.

My question(s) is: If I place the charcoal/carbon filter right beside the grow, will it clear up the smell of 5-7 budding plants. Also carbon or charcoal. and finally what size should I get for a bedroom with a LWH of

7.5 H
8.0 W
11.5 L

Thanks for looking please leave a reply. I really need help please the jack is really starting to stink and veg is only halfway over :S
I have started a grow journal on this site just search my profile for it. Here's a picture of it.004.jpg

Coal=Carbon Same , you have about 90 sq ft room to exhaust + 7' 5'' height = about 700 Cubic Feet So fan needed would be 700 CFM (cubic feet per Min) So this size fan with the correct size fresh air opening for supply air (intake) you would move 100% of the air in that room in one min, the fresh air opening would have to be either a 12 inch round ducted in from outside or 12'' x 12'' square duct,or any combo that would give you a opening size of freshe air of 144 sq inches of air.

You don't need to clear the air in the room every min. I'm not saying it would be bad to do, just not nessacary. Once every 3-5 min. is sufficient. So you could use a fan with half that cfm. I'd reccomend an 8" inline fan and a 8" carbon filter.
Happy Growing.

Raven dont take this the wrong way ,Im not telling the poster to what to install as you are ,I am simply giving him specific calculations ,how to size exhaust fans correctly by converting your sq ft + height of area to Cubic feet ,Hence what CFM stands for Cubic feet per min, Just giving him the 101 on moving air correctly , In my Professionl Opinon as a 30+ HVAC , I would size correctly just because there is a lot of sq ft there to expand in the future, add a speed controller to the correct fan and now there is adjustment to move the CFM and then dial the fan in as needed.

I'm not saying he/she must install that fan either, just suggesting. I know how to calculate cubic feet and what cfm stands for. I'm wasn't trying to say you were wrong, just saying that you don't need a fan equal to your total cubic feet. I'm also not disputing buying oversized for your current needs to leave room for expansion, but he didn't mention that. An 8" inline fan ranges from about 400-700cfm, depending on what brand you buy. I'm no expert, so I won't argue with your experience, I just wanted suggest the easiest way of doing things that would work for him/her.
