Advice needed

So I haven't heard from a good friend and fellow grower in over a month. Over the weekend I recieved a call from his mother telling me that he got his ass thrown in jail (non mj related). She asked if I could check his house to make sure everything was in order. I know where he hides his grow and went to check it out. I couldn't believe how terrible everything looked. Plants were so root bound that the roots were coiling up in the bottom of the pots and the leaves have brown spots all over them. I went to a near by store and bought some 5 gal. pots and 120 pounds of soil and repoted them all, gently broke up the soil around the roots before repoting and gave them a heavy watering after they were potted. The PH of the soil was around 6.5. Is there anything else I can do to try and healthen these up? I haven't added any nutes yet because of all the brown on the leaves thinking this was from the miracle grow soil he uses and the lack of care over the last month. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry no pics digi camera is MIA.

I would think you might start adding nutes (low dose) next watering. New soil those root will be going crazy.

thanks stumps, I will do that next watering. He would be devastated if his babies died while he is gone.
