adjusting ph

OK, so when you adjust the ph of the water you use to water your plants do you use a really , really small amount of ph down (or up) because i always have and i was wondering if its right. i have the ph down from the hydro discount store. and i stick a chopstick in it and use a tissue to wipe drips then use like 1/4 of a drop and it lowers ph by like 2.0 from 8.0 (the ph of my tap water) to 6.0. does everyone else do it like this aswell?

hi, ya i jus pour a tiny drop of either the ph up/down into the cork from the bottle and let it drop in, swirl it around for a second then let it rest and check it, kind of the same as u. im only new to growing but thats all u can do i suppose. it goes up 2 or 3 easily with a couple of drops!

Yeah, the bottle says that 1/4 tsp per gallon will lower PH by about 0.5, not sure how much water you are mixing at a time but yes a little goes a long way. I personally use an eye dropper and just a few drops at a time till it is just right.

Ever since I got my RO machine I have way fewer issues with PH drift. In fact I rarely have to adjust it at all. I use RO water in my res and add in the nutes .... that alone usually brings the PH right to where it should be. I usually don't have to adjust it again until 2 days later.

I switched to the powder form of PH up/down because it's more economical. What I do when I have to adjust is get a cup and fill it with water from the res, then I get a measuring spoon and add PH down (or up) to that and mix it up in the cup really good so it's completely dissolved and then I pour it back in the res and stir. I find 1/8 of a tsp. is enough to adjust my 10 gallon res.
