Adding supplementals to COBs

I am looking for testimonials on adding deep reds and or UV a/b to a 900w Cree Cob light covering a 4x5 foot space. Anyone have positive experience in this? approx what wattage for that space and any links?
 
I was just weighing out the adding of deep red myself. Instead I added 2700k 90cri cobs. I figure they have a ton extra red and the rest is extra light. I used clu048 1212's

I say go for it. Adding reds will help promote an increase in essential oils. Many growers prefer a mixed spectrum. It's all personal preference. The amount of reds you'll want to add will depend on the kelvin of your cobs.

Is there some formulation for this or relative to Kelvin and Wattage of the primary source?
I know inda-gro always talks about a balance of pr/fr or something to that effect

Not that I'm aware of. There might be though. I am a big fan of Apache Tech's 3W:2R ratio with the whites being on the cooler side. Also used something closer to a 2W:1R with the whites being ~4000k. I even tried 3R:1W with whites being ~4000k. I don't think there is any magic recipe so it's all about finding something that works for you and you're happy with. A lot of HID growers like to alternate HPS - MH - HPS - MH because they like how that works out for them.

Suppose you wanted to run a 600W HPS in the center of a 5x5 and surround it with 4 50-75W led modules. Would you run white cobs or something like a Blue heavy Blurple led module?
 
I use FR and see improvement in timing. I also use Deep Red and IR and see better results there too. I have not used any UV lighting fr grows, but I have used it in hospital HVAC systems. I saw @Growmau5 video on his new light with UV. nice thinking.

Depends on what I was looking for. Using quality blurple would be good, I might even look into those new "OIL" units from advanced, or I think some Fluence ray bars would do well with HPS. If I went straight cobs I'd go with 5000k or higher to get some heavy blue.

My thoughts are that DE HPS lamps are still at the top for µmole/j photon delivery rivaling the best led's but also provide needed IR and UV
Then fill in the spectrum and provide the rest of the photons with nm specific high efficiency led's
Might just be the winning hybrid combo
