Adding Nutrients

Whats up everyone?

I had a question... I've been looking at the lucas method for hydro, and another system from latewood... these both call for specific ratios of nutrients.

My question is: say hypothetically you have a 20 gallon reservoir. In the tuts i've seen, they take a fraction of the 20 gallons, say 5, and add nutrients to that 5, which is then combined back into the reservoir. When you pull the fraction (5 gallons) of water to mix nutrients, do you add in the total nutes appropriate for 20 gallons, or just nutes for 5 gallons?

in short - when diluting nutes in a portion of your reservoir water, do you add nutes for that portion, or for the whole reservoir.

thanks for the help, sorry if is a newb question.

I Am Pretty New At This Myself............it Doesn't Really Make Any Sense To Only Put In Nuts For 5 Gal If There Is Actually 20 Gals, My Answer Is Put The Nuts Equivilent For The Actual Amount Of Water That You Are Treating......haven't Had Any Problemw As Far As Nutrients Go Anyway, Good Luck

what ever you do don't EVER forget to set your pump again after working on your sys. on Easter i was, lets say, feelin' pretty good, went down stairs fiddled with my plants, and proceeded to carry on with my evening. yesterday morning is the first morning that i haven't checked the babies in the a.m. went down around 12:00pm and realized i never put my pump back on the timer SHIT SHIT SHIT!!!!!!!! babies don't look so good anymore!!have you or anyone you know done this? and will they recover? most of the luscious fan leaves are pretty dry but the rest of the plants are fine.........and they were just starting to flower too.

shit that definately sucks. I haven't ever left the pump off, although I'm sure at some point i'll end up doing something like that. Ahh, stoners.

One of my friends who has used hydro for awhile said that he has had pumps fail overnight before, and that while the plants did look shitty, they perked back up, so hopefully it'll all work out.

Maybe ask one of the veterans... i'm sure they could help you out.

If you have a ten gallon tank, then you add the nutes for ten gallons of water regardless of the number of plants. You use the proper amount of nutes PER GALLON of water, regardless of the number of plants, but NOT regardless of the size or age of plants. IF your plants are very immature seedlings or sprouts, reduce the nutes and add them gradually over a day or two.
PEACE

Good looking out, Roseman.

I've been adding nutes for the entire reservoir, things have been going good. Actually, i've been drafting out an ebb and flow design so that i can flower clones in SOG.

The reason some nutes say mix like lets say in the 5 gall then add to res is for protection. Youd take the 5 gallons add the amount for the total 20 gallons and that way if you spill or mis measure its not in your res and can be fixed and for dry nutes it lets you mix them and disolve them. This also prevents a sharp nutrient up take by your running pump so you dont blast your roots witha quick high nute shot.I dont have to worry about turning my pump off as it runs 24 hours a day for my aero lol good luck on the grow

yeh, that what i've been doing now, mixing all nutes into a bucket.., then adding to the rest of my tank. Then I mix like a crazed amish butter churner. ( a friend of mine says for GH that it is micro-grow-bloom... in that order. Dunno if it really matters like that, but I have seen that on other sites and I can't argue with his results, so...)

Your friend is right ,in a 3 part nutes you mix the micro in the water first. So you dont lockout any nutes or kill them. Peace

good looking out, thanks for all the help guys.

Right now i'm running a 10-gallon reservoir with 8 girls. (I had to transplant them to rockwool from soil, as I was a moron and too eager to plant them. D'oh!) All 8 of these plants are seriously recovering. I'm about certain that 6 of the 8 are gonna pull through, as they already have good colored new growth. 2 of them keep going south. Needless to say, I'm a moron.

I'm running 2 12" airstones in the 10 gallon. I also started on some new seedlings, which i'm going to directly plant into rockwool. I'm gonna place the 8 into two 18-gals I have, 4 in one, 4 in the other. I'm thinking about running 3-4 airstones per reservoir. Overkill?

Also, with the plants that aren't looking so good, they are exhibiting new growth. The bottom leaves are all blackening and canoeing, and dying, but the new growth looks ok. A friend of mine thinks they're necrotic spots? Wouldn't the development of necrosis pretty much condemn them to death?

i was thinking i would just grow them to flower in the 10 gallon reservoir, in 3 inch netpots that I have. they're gonna be small, but at this point i don't expect too much from them anyway... I just don't want to kill them.
