activated carbon

lets hear what you guys know about this stuff.

I once went to a guys house and he has this white oil, looked like butter, even whiter. he was a complete idiot though (crackhead) said it was made with activate charcoal.

I tried to make it once through activated charcoal and I rinsed it twice through the charcoal... it took EVERYTHING out, including my oil, I think. I never did finish boiling that batch off because I barely got anything back, totally ruined it.

but ive heard some amazing things about that charcoal.. how come I dont see it mentioned more often around these thread, especially with all the ISO extractions going on.

Charcoal does a good job of filtering out polar elements, but as noted does also soak up and retain active ingredients, and if not finely filtered afterwards, may end up with retained charcoal.

The best luck we've had in the lab removing color is by running the oil through a column packed with ionic and anionic resin beads. Most vivid colored things are polar, so one or the other resin snags them on the way through, leaving a solution that is much lighter than the starting solution.

Damn slow, so we are working on the process and will publish more later when it is viable.
