AC in a Closed System Tent HELP!

Hello,

I have been using in the past for the 5x5 tent closed system with CO2 a window ac. I cut the tent to where the outside of the AC is located outside of the tent with the front of the AC sealed inside the tent. This way I am not losing CO2 and exhausting the heat from the AC to outside the tent.

My question is 3 parted. I am looking into setting up new tent system but I am interested in the portable 2 hose, intake/exhaust, AC systems.

1. I wanted to know if anyone knows if the intake hose also brings in outside air into the tent or is the intake used to cool off the AC?
2. Does the exhaust hose take the CO2 out of the room?
3. Most of the AC units have digital controls, so once put on a timer all the settings are erased, any ideas to bypass this issue but yet keep the AC on the timer. My current AC is a dial control. (Old School)

Any input would be appreciated.

VictoryGardensHydro,

I just post my own thread about a similar design problem with the exact same tent dimensions KainNine has. Your suggestion to solve his problem may solve my design issues for my tent. Does the Mini Split A/C outdoor Unit need to be installed outdoors like they say, or can i just place it outside my tent in the room i'm going to place the tent in? The A/C for the tent is my main problem since i'm also going to be running Co2 in my tent. I originally was going to use a portable A/C, but that adds some problems to the design like KainNine stated. Also can i hook this split A/C system to a climate controller or would the A/C system have to run on its own? Thanks

I believe the requires a 220V, which I dont have access to. Also what about the issue of a timer? If the unit is put on a timer, it will reset the settings on the unit? Plus this would be a heavier unit to hang within a tent.

Any other ideas or solutions?

Thanks

I checked out the Specs on the A/C and it runs on a 110v power supply and the indoor part of the A/C only weights 20 pounds. The external part of the mini split does weigh 75 pounds, but this will not need to hang in the room. Just out side somewhere so it can transfer the heat from the grow room. I answered my own question about placing the outside unit outside or inside, which it seems you should have it outdoors. The Growlab tents and the hydro huts can carry up to 100 pounds of equipment last time i checked. As for the timing and settings being erased, i don't know if this will happen or not.

Thanks for posting that A/C set up VictoryGardensHydro. It think this is going to solve most of the issues i have on my design. It is expensive, but i plan on getting my environment dialed in this time around. All the worrying about heat issues is worth putting the money down to have some peace of mind.

I own an a/c company also and we used these for server rooms, They are made for growrooms. You could keep the outside unit in the room but it wouldn't work very efficient and the room would get very hot. A pro would charge you around $3000 to install one, you can get one for 6-7 hundred and hook it up yourself in about an hour or two. The smaller ones come in 110 volt and have all the wires ready to just plug in.

Thank you VictoryGarden for such a great idea and solution. I do have a question on the portable AC units, do the 2 hoses intake/exhaust, remove the CO2 from the tent and intake introduce air from the outside the tent to the inside or is the intake hose just to cool off the unit?

Also can the system you recommend be programmed for multiply on/off through out the day? Do they sell a unit that has dials instead of digital panel?

Thank you.

the portable will exhaust some air from the room, the minisplit is remote control operated, the remote is a thermostat, the temps are adjusted by what temp you set it at and where you place the remote.
