A real life example of stupidity in action

This one had me just shaking my head in amazement...

So here's the situation... I'm at work the other day and my coworker whose pregnant comes up to me and tells me how she's been having heartburn a lot lately, then she tells me that my other coworker - who is the father of her child - is also experiencing the same thing... So this is where the thinking stops and what she's heard takes over... She goes on to explain how amazing that is, how the mother could feel something and it could transfer off onto the father like that. This absolutely blew my mind. I was almost in a state of speechlessness, but managed to ask "how would that work?"... She tells me she didn't know but it does! She explains how that's proof. I said "that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of in my life", then the other coworker comes in "no dude, it's true, I never had heartburn before and right when she got it, I got it too, it's true!", then another coworker comes in, except this one is a shift supervisor and twice as old as the rest of us, so she carries a sense of authority with her, "Oh the same thing happened to me and my husband during our pregnancy!"

!!!!!!!

Oh god, by this point I'm tearing my hair out of my head inside my mind!

Did you see what happened?! A STUPID AS FUCK idea gets thought up, what is believed to be "proof" (because the bitch has absolutely no idea of what proof amounts to!) is put on the table, then it's confirmed by two people, so! - IT MUST BE TRUE!!!!!

OOOOOOOH MY FUCKING GOD!!!

None of them cared to answer any of my questions about how this could possibly happen. In fact, the male coworker seemed to actually get a little defensive after I started speaking my opinion about it.. I brought up the same shit with astrology, to which I got "yeah, that might be true too!"

LMFAOSFJAO!!!!

These people should kill themselves.

...kind'a reminds me of a story I once heard about this woman, she became pregnant but claimed to be a virgin.....said God knocked her up...no sperm required I guess....everyone seemed to believe her!!!! ...the kid grew up to become a carpenter with, said to be "magical powers," ....mind you, the chic would've gotten stoned to death in the center of town for having sex out of wedlock.

....idk, some people just don't need scientific proof.

I really lold at the "no dude, it's true, I never had heartburn before and right when she got it, I got it too, it's true!"

I would have been like, "hey just curious, did she happen to maybe make a dinner that you BOTH ate before this happend?"

I mean if you both eat something that causes heartburn, Common sense would say that your both gonna get it eh?

No different than a placebo effect in reverse. Thinking and emotions impact us physically... is it really that shocking that sympathy and emotional attachment results in physical symptoms from one person to another? Never seen someone vomit and start to feel nauseous yourself?

I had similar symptoms to all my wifes while she was preggo with our son. It's like when you're around someone enough that you start talking like them. Like Tao said, it's like a placebo effect sort of.

Never really understood women's periods syncing up when they hang around each other for a while either.:?

i dont know man this stuff is totally true

like my wife used to be really great.
but then one day she became a total insuferable bitch,
and at that same time i began to hate her.

kinda creepy if u ask me.
i mean like the odds of that happening just randomly.......

Absolute empathy is hard to grasp, but no where near impossible. It's actually very possible that your co-worker and her husband experience a spiritual connection(of sorts) with each other. While not easy to explain or understand unless you've experienced the same feelings yourself, it exsists. Physical responses to emotional stimuli are not only brought on in a number of ways but very common.

I've wondered that too.. I mean I've been medically regulating my period since I was 16 so I never experienced it but I know of a lot of girls who said that its true and happens to them and their moms/sisters/friends. You really do have to be around each other constantly though I think.

Interesting.

But come on, she wasn't sitting there explaining any kind of evidence, it was just what she'd heard. Got to the bottom of that after a little questioning and the other guys defensive attitude cuz he knew the same thing I did! lol! Out of respect I didn't go any further..

I thought it was funny more than it pissed me off, this chick says things like this all the time...

sympathy pains/ sympathy illness.

Just because you havent heard of it does not make it true.
