A Newbies First Grow

Happy Independence Day!!

I planted my first MJ crop first week of May. I have a total of four plants. I am pretty sure I have at least one female (my baby) and possibly three total. The one that I believe to be a male is growing to look like a freak. Summer is finally starting to set in in SE Wisconsin.

I topped my baby three days ago and it is really taking off. The weather we have come into over the last week has really got my plants accelerating their growth.

Now I am just looking for gender signs so I can pull any males out and keep my ladies safe. But I am fairly certain that the freak of the four is a male.

Not doing anything special in terms of feeding. Soil in SE Wisconsin is blessed by God, so nature really sets me up well here. I know with flowering coming soon, I will be more vigilant with my care.

I wanted to start this thread to document my first grow and learn how to adjust my technique for future grows. So any and all suggestions are more than welcome. Here is current state as of this morning...

Summer is no where near "set" in SE Wisconsin Todays length of daylight is 15 hours and 10 min
Patience is the hardest part of growing
Looking good so far

By set in, I mean hot and steamy and summer. Not light/dark ratio. I am well aware of the current ratio, as I have been a gardener for 20 years or so.

Thanks!

Good Luck !

Damn! November can easily become winter, or be July here. Lake Michigan plays such a role with our climate. If I could get to November, that would be amazing!

I will have to see. Thanks!

Since topping 4 days ago, there has been some acceleration of growth in leaves. Even the stalk has some leaves blooming.

I think I am seeing female anatomy, but I am being patient...

If you can take a clear, close picture, post it up.

I'm finally getting some signs of sex on most of my plants. They've just been getting bigger and not showing me anything. So far, I'm getting a pretty good female ratio, around 70%. Hopefully the laggards don't shoot that to shit.

For future knowledge, ive myself have 4+ years experiance from from nothing, and learnt in my years of outdoor the males are a kick to the nuts if it ends up being a nice plant, so best to do is have a little indoor light, veg them a foot or so tall and flip to flower to show the presex and cull the males and then keep the females and reflip them back to veg quickly to assure females
Saves you from males down the road

I am being patient while observing a documenting changes daily. Here is a very magnified image of my baby. There are some changes coming on as we get into July. Great stretch of weather here.
Eeek that looks like it might be a boy. Oh how I hope I am wrong.

Well, I have three more plants, so I assumed 1 at a minimum would be female. But damn, I really want it to be this one. Still waiting...
If this year doesn't turn out good. Look into how to pick seeds. There are some desirable qualities you should look for. Also, germination temperature greatly influences the sex of the plants.

I read a lot on this and I just don't see any scientific studies proving it. I've only read this on m.j. forums and grow sites.
I honestly think that all the factors that determine the sex of a seed is happening when the seed is being created not when it is germinating, like lighting, humidity, temps and stress factors.
But that is just my opinion. Would be cool if it was true.

Still no clear signs of gender yet. 3 of 4 plants are topped. 3 of 4 plants are as tall as my corn, which is serving as great camo.

Patience is my biggest flaw, so I am getting challenges from all directions with this grow. I have 4 healthy veg-state plants right now, in Wisconsin. So I ain't mad at all. I assume at least one will be female, so anything above that is a bonus.

But damn, patience is a mofo!

Hello all!

Been a minute since I posted some pics hoping to identify gender. I am almost 100% certain my favorite baby is a male. Sucks, big time, as he was a gorgeous plant. Part of me wants to pull him now, but I want to be patient still. Thoughts??

I do believe my next baby is a female though. Classic traits from the massive research I have done on preflowers. I am hyped about her, because she is really close to being as pretty as the male is. Healthy and strong for some serious bud growth.

I have one more that still needs to catch up a little.

Would love some feedback from the community
