Its my first thread on rollitup....So firstly hello to everyone its great to be here! Seen a lot of inspiring stuff on here so far so cant wait to get into some chit chat with you guys for my next grow.
So I have grown 4-5 times before 2-3 times were semi successful and the other 2 were just a waste of time and money. But I am back again simply through my undying love for the plant. I would consider myself to be knowledgable but somewhat inexperienced and like most things in my life I can talk the talk but cant always walk the walk!
I have decided to have a go at just 2 plants, for this I have chosen big bang from the greenhouse, I bought 4 seeds but will go with the 2 strongest as space is an issue, My main dilemma at the moment is that I have been a little impatient and gone at it a bit like a bull at a gate! I ordered a 400w hps light online on Friday, but put my seeds in to germinate Saturday thinking in the past they have always taken a few days to sprout, using the paper towel method so the HPS light should get here in time, however a friend suggested a different germination method of simply dropping them in a glass of water and leaving the seeds and glass in the dark. Anyone tried this?...to be fair I will never use the paper towel method again, over night they had sprouted!! which is great only issue is I have no light to put them under as I am still awaiting its arrival, so for now I have planted them in jiffy caps and had to put them in my conservatory, they have all sprouted and the first leaves are almost showing, but we are only getting 12 hours of light here at the moment, so what I need to know is if my light comes today/tomorrow would I have problems going back into a 18hrs of light? or should I just opt for a 12/12 from seed? Or....should just order new seeds and start again?
I will be using like I said a 400w hps throughout and growing in DWC buckets, I am having a bit of a dilemma as regards my grow space also, I have a section of loft sheeted off and set up but only a low grow space as its in the apex of the roof so will have to go with a SOG. The space which is around 8 feet wide x 4 feet deep but then the highest point of roof is about 5.5ft and the lowest around 2 feet I hope you can understand that! I also have some fitted wardrobes in an unused bedroom that I could also use that has more height but is only around 4 feet wide x 2.5 feet deep x 6 feet high I can also use this but am a little more worried about smell and ventilation. I am yet to buy and extractor and filter because im not 100% on the grow space yet, but have 2 desk fans for circulation. I will buy a proper ventilation system in due course. I need to keep things fairly stealthy If I can and in the bedroom the window is the other end of room and going through the ceiling for ventilation is not an option as its rented and they are proper fitted wardrobes, with slide doors cant really go hacking through them.
Any advice you can give will be great.
