A few questions about ppm and ph balance??

1. I recently brought a Tds meter that uses Nacl/ppm. My tap water registers 145ppm fresh off the tap. Is this ok to grow hydroponics you think?
2. When adding nutrients. Should you add nutrients first then ph the water?
These are the tools Im working with as far as that goes:
Tds meter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002C0A7ZY/ref=redir_mdp_mobile
Ph Meter: Milwaukee ph600
Fox farm trio pack. Big bloom, grow big and tiger bloom.
DWC bottom feed hydro bucket
Seedsman white widow fem seedling
Htg supply 4 foot ho bulbs. I have 4

Thank you guys for your help and replys.

Your water may or may not be good. My fem. WW seedling became unhappy above 400 ppm cumulative.

Prepare your nute solution, then pH it, aerate ... and re-pH after about a day. The hardness in your water is carbonate and bicarbonate ... as the carbionic acid gets blown off pH creeps up. cn

145ppm tap is not very hard at all. usually when you have above 300ppm you want to invest in an RO system....always check your PH after you add nutes because the nutes will bring the PH down once you mix them with the water. Canna is right, aerate and check again the next day. Also what conversion is your TDS meter at? .5 or .7 this is a common mistake a lot of people make when reading PPMs however most meters are at .7

dude u r rockin bangin ass tap water. im growing in 300+ ppm water from the faucet. good trick tho. if u aerate ur water for 24 hours it burns and evaporates the clorina and stuff that causes alot of the ppms u see.

Most likely your water is perfect,a fawcett ppm of 145 is normaly excellent water & perfect for hydroponics.

A couple things ,i had a shitty time using the same fox farm nutrients you have, when i used them in a highly airated rez it turned the rez into a fukin mess, the rez scummed up over night & smelled like an aligators asshole,i threw that shit out & went back to general hydroponics that i normaly run.

You mentioned you have 4 seperate 4ft long t-5 bulbs, unless your grow is going to be extremely small your going to need alot more light, the bulbs you have now will only light a 1 foot wide by 4 foot long stretch, trying to fit plants under a 1 foot wide light coverage is going to mandate you turn your plants every day, even then they are going to stretch badly.

As for leaving your water sit out to allow chlorine to dissapate it is ok to do but in doing so it will not lower the ppm count of the water in a measureable amount, chlorine content of most city water is miniscule.

Get more light bud, alot more light.

haha i wish it was miniscule in san diego. i live right next to the mexican tijuana border man. my tap water is full of crazy shit. once had an imigrant come up thru my shower head at me. knocked my ass out. talk about hard water. lmao. but naw just fun and games. but seriously it does help with my ppms. a lot in fact.

and yes i agree more light.
