A few first timer questions...

I'm in a DR90 tent (3x3x6). 400W MH for veg and 600W HPS afterwards.

In terms of light placement (height above the pots/plants)...what height do I start at? I am using an air cooled tube reflector. And also, do I keep it at that same height distance throughout the whole process (obviously raising as the plants grow) even with the 600W?

I need to know the start height so I can finish installing my duct work tonight. I need to have enough length but I don't want more ducting that I have to ;)

In terms of the tent...what's best for the sleeves/ports that I'm not using. Should they all be closed or leave any open for incoming air flow (bottom ones)? My whole set up is inside the tent (filter and fan), so I'm only using 1 exhaust port at the moment. So for the unused ports, do I close/tighten them and leave them on the inside of the tent or shall I have them hang on the outside?

I'm such a noob..lol

Yes 18" or as close as the plants can take it through your grow. But watch the plants and not just the height or a calendar. Sativas can really take the light while indicas do with far less.

I have my lights all the way up and start the plants on a platform (actually crates, I am a ghetto grower) then lower them (the plants)after/during the stretch.
I like to keep them as close as possable without heat stressing them. Anyways good luck on your grow may the bud goddess look favorably on you.

just put your hand under the light at the same level as the top of your plants, if it is too hot for your hand then same goes for your plants so raise the lamp, if your hand is not warm enough to be comfortable then lower the light until it is. If the temp is comfortable for you then it should be for the plants. I would leave your bottom vents open for air intake yes and put them so the most air will come in whether that be inside or out of your tent. I'd recommend a beginner grow dvd like Jorge Cervantes Ultimate Grow to any beginner, so much valuable info and after years of growing i still find myself watching them and learning.

Funny you bring him up (Cervantes).....my hydro store actually sells his book for $40.

His best video's are already here on RIU in the stickies...the J.C. Grow Bible is available free through many torrent download sites as well. Personally I prefer the Ed Rosenthal book but both have invaluable education. Best of luck.
