Hi all

What is in your opinion the best solvent to use for medicinal extractions and why?
How effective is it medicinally to decarb butane extractions and dose those for oral consumption? What about if infused in a fat for ingestion?
For some reason naphta is cheap and easy to get here, anyone ever try it?

thanks

there is only 2 types of extractions that can be used safe in food
1 Co2
2 RSO (rick simpson oil)

all those other system leave something be hide in them that eating is not a good idea ......as for burning them the damage and danger is known and still allowed

as for decarb with butane or BHO u are doing this during the purge of it when it is still on mat and u are whipping it around to release the last of the gas........it is all about heat and time to much heat and the time u can work it is shorten to little heat does not do the whole job in the time u work it

shoot for 180 degrees that gives u about 40/45 mins to purge it all out and decarbs it after that u are converting the thc and cbds into other chemicals

the Co2 oil i am not sure about decarb but the RSO u are doing that when u cook down the oil

if u want something to eat learn about tinctures.........they take time to make but u can take them orally or add it to drinks /food

Agreed on using ethanol. But really, you don't need to get an oil first unless you need something super concentrated. You can make tinctures in alcohol, coconut oil, butter, olive oil, VG, etc for edibles. Rsearch but basically decarb the bud and put into a crock pot or double boiler for a while. Go to teh edibles section.

I would not use Naptha myself.

I've been using BHO and QWISO extractions for oral consumption. I like mixing them with an equal amount of lecithin, and .5gm/capsule, single 0, of coconut oil. I have settled on 25 capsules per gram of extract, So for 100 doses, 4 grams QWISO/BHO, +4 grams lecithin, + 50 grams coconut oil. I decarb at 250° for 25 minutes or until it stops out-gassing. I usually take two caps, but make them this way so others with less tolerance can take them.

The word Naphtha, only specifies a boiling point range, not what is in it, and often what is in it is Benezene, an known carcinogen. Even the "medical" grade V&PM Rick recommends, is actually formulated for Varnish & Paint Makers.

I highly recommend that you do not use Naphtha for extracting pharmaceuticals and you note it isn't on the FDA list of approved phama solvents either.

We can argue the merits of the different processes all day, but I split one lot of Blue Dream five ways, and extracted using naphtha, hexane, butane, isopropyl, and ethanol. All of the extractions produced GC results within the central scatter of one another, though some retained more monoterpenes than others.

That had more to do with how hard they were to purge, than how many monoterpenes they started out with.

Cutting to the chase, we've supplied BHO and QWET based meds to ostensible end of life and other heavy dosage patients since about 2007 and have enjoyed good success.

The ones that didn't make it, were most heavily populated by those who had previously exhausted all western medicine options, and were grasping at all straws. Not only did they grasp at our straws, they also grasped at Phoenix Tears straws, and many included straws in foreign countries.

Dr Robert Melamede's research also suggests that we are as he puts it, "flooding our systems with cannabinoids", so from my perspective arguing the differences at the level of how many angels can dance on the head of a pen, appears inappropriate.

The fish trap exists only because of the fish. From my perspective, regardless of how you make it, that fish is a concentrate that has residual solvent below FDA pharma standards, with no added carcinogens/mutagens/teratogens,reproductive toxins, etc, and which retains our targeted elements.

Really good post mate thanks!

When I first researching RSO and thus Naptha, the only thing I found was the paint thinner stuff. Interesting Fadedawg, thanks!

ive been using bho, qwet, and qwiso oil for my edibles for the past 3 years. I also decarb it at 283*/8mins per skunkfarms recommendation. never had any issues and always potent. you need to make sure you have your weight ratios spot on, or some finished edibles will be too potent. 1g/bho, 1.5g/qwiso/qwet oil, 2.0g/bubble hash per 1/3 cup of oil per your package of edibles.

I go thru a dozen muffins a week for the past 3 years.

How many edibles are you making with the 2gs of bubble? I usually get 30 cookies fron a stick of butter. I use 7.5 grams bubble per stick for .25 per treat. Those are super potent pain relief.

I bake muffins normally, 1 dozen per batch with 1/3 cup of oil with the above thc extraction weight/oil. I thought I would make a potent batch for my patients this last time. I used 2.5g/qwet in my oil (1g more than usually). well they were toooooo freakin potent. a 1/4 piece of a standard sized muffin kicked my ass and was ko'd about 3 hrs later. they were too potent to give to my patients, so I destroyed them to be safe. I don't want to give them to my patients and have them be uncomfortable when eating them, or worse have a bad reaction cause they were too potent.

making butter or oil from trim is not the same as making them from a concentrate. its like smoking a bowl vs taking a couple good hit from my vape pipe. theres no comparison.

also, the muffins I make, I only need to eat a 1/2 of one and im good to go (my patients only eat 1/2 as well). 1.25hrs later and here comes the waves of the edible and an awesme time for the next 4+hrs.

I wasnt knocking your method was just wondering on potency. Like I said I dont use trim either, I like to use bubble hash. When I use oil its obviously less then .25 per treat usually get 12 per gram

it took me over a year of trial and error with my measurements/dosages to get it to where I (and my patients) were comfortable eating them, but still getting the full benefits of an edible w/o it being too intense. I could make them less potent, where you would need to eat a whole muffin vs a half, but I don't see any reason to. both my patients and myself are happy with the way they are currently being made. I also make fudge, but its very difficult as the butter to concentrate ratio is very small, and occasionally I have a hard time with the small amount of butter absorbing all the concentrate. I also decarb ALL my concentrate (qwet/qwiso/bho/bubble/kief) at 280*/8 mins in a sealed metal bowl. skunkfarms recommends 284*/8 mins, but i find 280/8 seems about right. i also have a commercial Kenmore gas convection range (new 1 yr old), so i know my oven is proper) and tem is set correctly.
