did a search before i posted and did not see anything how well do the 945 cmh work and what are the best ballasts to run them with.

Hang 'em high and watch 'em fry!

The main advantage to 315W CMH lamps is the fact that you can spread them out to get superior light distribution.

No Sir- the fact that you can spread three lamps apart to get more even coverage is the reason why it's better.

This is a big advantage of LED lighting as well; lots of light sources evenly distributed across the canopy definitely help growers get better results with them than with big single point light sources, irrespective of spectrum or efficiency differences.
