8x8 Grow Room Question

High there!!

here is my question: I have a 8x8 grow room and currently have 6 plants (in soil and pots) under a 250watt HPS light...so in other words, i have a huge room with 6 plants on a 2x5 table...i have been growing for a year and have been successful, but the total yield isnt enough for us...I figure i need 8-10 plants (the HPS is strictly for flowering and i have flourecents for the vegg in another room) My question is, is my 250watt HPS good enough for the whole room? Like hang the ballest in the middle of the room and grow 8-10 plants?? If I need more lighting (which I think i do) how can i add CFL to the mix? Hang more ballests? looking for advice.. thanks a bunch!!

I dont know your setup but just keep doing what your doing , and fill that room up with as many plants as possible. Prune them nicely and put a garden net over your canopy right when you flower. Save up some money and eventually your best bet will be the flood and drain tables hydroponic. You can fit 2x 3x6 tables in that room and youll get a nice yeild, with a 600watt hps over em, or even a 1000hps, maybe on a mover.. if u got the money to spend on equipment and electricity.

250 watts is good for a plant or two. for 8-10 plants you'll want 1000 watts. I have a 600 watt hps system in my laundry room and grow 6 plants comfortably. I have no idea what gunrunner is talking about with ventilation.

i have edited my post... and i have no ventelation...just a small fan going..my temp doesnt get very high...maybe 80 degrees in the heat of the summer..

ballasts are not the thing the lightbulbs screw into... those are reflectors. Are you talking about hanging reflectors? lights go into reflectors which are plugged into ballasts which are plugged into the wall.

250 isn't enough. Your going to need to add much more to grow 8-10 plants. I know nothing of cfls. I do know that 1000w with a good hps bulb(s) is good for 8-10 plants.

my 250watt HPS is a complete unit sold to me by my local grow store..all i do is just plug it in...

So if i hang the 250 watt HPS in the middle of the room, and add a couple of CFL tube lighting (soft white) to each side and hang as well, would that be enough? for 8-10 plants?

thanks so much far all responses!! :)

i think if you step up to a 600 you should be fine, as , the plants will yield quite a bit more. you can veg with a hps, keeps em short n bushy...peace

You dont need to raise your plant count your need to raise your lumens and 250w is good but not enough if you dont know how to utilize its full capabilities. Your better off getting a bigger light(but you would need good ventilation) you can still d 6 plants just let them veg a lil longer , longer veg , bigger light = BIgger YILED. You have to becareful with just a fan in there cuz its just blowing around stale air , and they need a constant supply of fresh air or co2 , you want to pull fresh air in and pull old air out. Hope my 0.02 cents helped. Good Luck.

Happy Growing!

MY ROOM IS 8X8 IM RUNNING 2200 watts, 1000 on a mover and dual 600's , you will need more light in that room to grow great dank, your will still be able to grow, but only under the light not in the whole room

Was provided this info based on a question in another thread and been carrying it over to other threads. Here is good info regarding proper light distances. You can use this info to see how far your light is away from your plants to get proper coverage and whether or not it is efficient use of the light or not. Lighting questions seem to be coming up alot recently.

On the same note, I have 1k watts in a 4x6 veg room and get a decent amount of stretch when i try to use the entire thing. I already bought a mover and plan to add that when I fill the room again.

To make use of your room you ll need 4x600hps air cooled light with a 6 inch etractor pullin all the heat out the lights and out the room next id be getting a 6 inch extraction kit carbon filter the lot to get rid of stale air from your room in a 8X8ft room id be puttin 16 to 20 clones in there and vegging under 2x600mh or hps for 2 weeks tops your ladies should of reached a good 8 to 10inche by then and your final sized girls should b 2-2.5ft max no problem yeild if you got your shit down could be anythin from 60 to 120oz al dependin if u got your game down

Add 4 more 26watt CFLs, this will pump you with another 600 watts, 850 watts should be enough for 8 plants.
What are you spewing gunrunner?

250 + 104 watts = 354 watts.

But to answer the questions, in an 8 X 8 room.

You need a lot more light, a couple of 600's or 1000 watters. :joint::peace:

I think you failed to realize I'm using the actual power consumption of the CFLs, while using their incandescent equivalent output in the final calculation. As in 26watt CFLs = 120 - 150 watt output (depends on the maker's brand, some are more efficient than others).

Hope I cleared that up for you....

I never used HID, so I can only give insight about using CFLs, if that's OK with you that is..... :/

And remember to keep those CFLs closer to the plants, to get the best out of them! :)
A 26 watt CFL is just that 26 watts. You do not know what you are talking about.

I use CFL's in a little box to start clones. Use HID in a room.

Go figure :joint::peace:

I think that in my 5X5 tent, 1000W is about perfect. So 8X8 you would need 2 600w hids on a mover, or two 1000w hids stationary IMO. 250W is not even close, gonna need about 100 cfls!
