Planning on building a light I was wondering which is better for a All-around veg and flower light. 80 CRI or 90 CRI and why?

90 CRI has more red in It than 80 CRI. I chose 3000k 80 CRI to use as my main light. Both options will work fine for an all round spectrum.

If I went with the 90s it would be 3500k

Look it up on the forum, there has been discussions about this. I´m no LED guru, but what I gather is that there is a difference but not like one CRI is right and the other does not work. Look at the spec sheet of your desired LEDs, but i think that 90 CRI has less a lower luminous flux that 80 CRI (but more red, as mentioned above). You could also mix COBs if you want to have it all.

True. I’ve read some but it just seems to be a big back and forth thing when I’m just trying to find a more specific answer but maybe it is just one of those things that can’t be answered straight forward

All of mine just about are 80cri the key difference is a more pronounced spectrum on either end of the color scale. Either 80 or 90 cri are going to grow very well

All my lights are citizen 1818's and I'm currently building a quantum board light around 1500 watts that will blow my current lights away

As is so, SO easy to do in DIY LED design, IMO, the CRI rating is splitting hairs .....
    10-20 Lm/w here and there, 3000k 3500k, 80-90 CRI, negligible difference....to ME.
Now, if one were illuminating a warehouse sized area.....?

So would I get a good quality all around light and a good producing light from 90 CRI 3500k ?

Depends on the brand. Pay more attention to the brand and get a good brand like cree, vero, citizen you'll get a good light with either 80 or 90 and all mine are 3k's veg to flower

So you buy lights on amazon and take them apart for the drivers? And then buy separate cobs?

That’s only a good idea if you have them one hand. The meanwell drivers aren’t much and neither are any of the components. But if you have a few Chinese made purples laying around why not. I would go off buying lights to pull them all apart though but that’s me.
