hey guys i was wondering is it bad to have a 600watt light grow in a closet with no fans etc, gets pretty hot

most definitely it will get way too hot.
It all depends on your budget
If you have the funds invest in cool tube, fans, soil, etc

would i be loosing to much light if i had the closet door open with a fan pointing towards it, the plant is just starting

I can answer this as I have a 600 watter and I'm also doing closet grows with it. It gets hot. I invested in a cooltube and a CHEAP Lowe's inline fan. You don't need the expensive turbine fans. If you don't want to invest in the cooltube (It's worth it though, trust me), then just get a cheap strong fan and blow it across the light. That'll help to take care of the excess heat.

Heck no. They're powerful. You can leave the door open a little and blow the fan across the light or the hydro container. You just need a breeze going into the closet. I actually have both an inline fan and a cheap fan blowing across the hydro bin. No worries about my res temps either. They're always under 72 now.
