600w or 1000w for my room?

So I just moved to a new place and have a good sized closet (5'L x3'W x 6'H). I've been using my 400w that I had from my old place because my closet was so small.

I've been considering an upgrade, my plants are about 3 weeks into veg and I'd like to upgrade to either a 600w or 1000w for this flower cycle.

The only things I'm worried about are heat and electricity. My room currently stays around 80F at the canopy with the light about 10" from the canopy. Also I don't want my electricity to go crazy and it seem sketchy because I live in a smaller apartment.

I have an air cooled hood that measures 19"x21" will this be a big enough hood for a 600 or 1000 watter? It is hooked up to a 450cfm vortex fan, but I run it at half speed to decrease noise.

What do you guys think? I can also just go with a 600 watter then get a new hood later and use my 400 watter? I just feel like maybe the 1000 watter will be too intense for my space since temps are already around 80F.

Any help would be great.

600w for sure dude. A 1000w with that ceiling height will mean you have to grow really short plants. A 600w has a footprint of 4.5x4.5 so you'll be perfect in that room. Less electricity, taller plants, less heat. That hood you have is fine as well.

Put the 1000 in a cooltube and use that, use the 400w in a veg room. As summer is coming up you will need a cooltube anyway, very important to keep temps below 80.

600 or keep the 400.
1000w will get too hot, esp in summer.

you will have to run that fan full on, so more noise will be added either way. i use to run 400s and 600s in closets and you may need AC in summer....they can be tricky to ventilate, pull cold air in at night from a nearby window and vent into the attic or basement.

a 5x3 sounds like a good shape for a light mover.

I vote 400 or 600 for a closet grow. it will get way to hot for a 1000w unless you have a good exhaust system and possibly an extra a/c.

Think of it this way. You put a 1000w light and hood in there and your glass will be at 5'. You can't really get any closer than 1' to the hood on a 100w or you risk bleaching your plants. That is under PERFECT conditions too. So let's say 18". Add 1' for your pots and you are growing 2-3' plants and dealing with a shitload of heat for that small of a space. Plus with a 1000w you will be wasting 2-3' of optimal light along the 3' width of your closet. 600w seems the route to go.
