600w hps heat.

I'm currently running a cfl grow, but I see the difference in hps and cfl. How much heat will a 600 hps put off? Is this viable for both veg and flower? I'm just curious because my power bill for this month is 94.00 with 12 cfls and I'm sure it'll be more with an hps. Thanks:leaf:

A 600w is hotter for sure but the difference in quality is pretty big. I use 12 100w cfls for veg and a 600w HPS for flower. My bills about 120.00 per mnth. My temps are 80-82 degrees. In summer I have to have AC and a 600cfm exhaust fan to keep temps constant. If you use a digital or switchable ballast you can use MH or Hps bulbs. I use CFLs to save energy. I used to use a 400w for veg but my bill was too high @ 18 hrs a day. The 600w only goes 12hrs a day so the powers not so much. I had a 1000w HPS but temps were over 85 all the time. Too Hot! Good Luck!

yeah, i started using my 600w digital system right at the end of summer, and temps got to around 90 even with an inline aircooled hood (cooltube). I had to rig up some stuff and vent out my tent better to get the temps down to where i needed them to be. I would recommend getting yourself a cooltube, and a vortex fan, and run ducting from the air outside, cooling off your light, and then exhausting ouside the growroom/tent again. The temps may still be high a little, but then you can utilize c02 and have it work really well with your plants. If you cant swing for co2 or even the excellofizz co2 pucks, then work to get the temps down to 80-75 degrees, which is optimal for plant growth with a hps/mh system. I used CFLs for my last grow (ALOT of cfls), and the difference between a MH bulb for veg Vs CFLs for veg is rediculous, lol. I cant wait to see the difference between HPS and CFLs for flowering.

Thank you both for the knowledge, I'll have to make some upgrades to my current setup or go for a grow tent. +rep to you both.

king got you summed up perfect, 600w gonna need a cooltube or a aircooled hood and a vortex fan for sure for the heat. I can tell you from exp that setup will work.
