600W - How close is too close?

So I have a 600w HPS in a cooltube, vented with a 550 CFM fan. I have the fan set at ~50% and I have a temperature sensor taped to the glass directly under the bulb.

Temperature on the glass is at 82F and with better positioning of the fan from underneath, as well as ramping up my inline past 50%, I can probably get it below 80F.

My question is now, is it "safe" to lower my light extremely close to my SCROG canopy? Or will I get problems from "light bleaching" and whatnot, even if the temps are OK? I could basically have a 600w an inch away from the canopy (if I wanted to). Right now it's at 20 inches lol, they just went into the flower room.

This chart should help give you an idea of where you should be based on your bulbs specs
and assuming they're hitting optimal lumens. If you're able to keep your cooltube temps down
I would worry too much about burning them with heat, just watch out for light bleaching.

I have a 600 Nextgen w/ cool tube and elicent 304cfm exhaust fan. I try and stay 7-8 inches above. Any closer than that and the buds start getting bleached/sunburned. I think a 600 w/ a cool tube is possibly the best configuration if you have a confined space. It's done me good for 5 grows now!

Yea with no nutes, growing in 5 gallons of miracle grow the entire time, 2 plants in 1 bucket, I yielded 3 ounces. Not bad for putting them in a bucket and throwing them under the light. This time however, is a little more in depth with dwc scrog and hempy sog.

well, i put my hand under it and lower it as far as the heat allows. light burn in my experience is caused by hot spots. a diffuser helps this greatly, idk if they make one for a cooltube. you could just start at 1.5' and lower it daily til you see a slight yellow then raise it a few inches. i also notice vertical reflectors dont cause any light burn at all. this is what made me try a diffuser on my horizontal and it worked.

Really? I had a diffuser in my hand today at the hydro store, but put it down. At only 30$ I thought it might be worth a shot. The labeling says it will "Lower temps by at least 9F at canopy level" how they can determine what "canopy level" is for everyone I don't know, but that's what they claimed. I really will probably get one though because I have 100w / sq ft. for this dwc scrog project.

p.s. looked like it would fit in between my bulb and cooltube glass (6 in. cooltube)

yea....9F wtf thats marketing. all it does is eliminate hot spots by reflecting the direct bottom of the bulbs light to the sides and back to the reflector. if your real cheap or just dont want to support marketing....you can make one yourself outta a coat hanger, some spare bendable metal and flat white paint. you cant go wrong though if you can find the ones made out of glass coated material. 100w a sq ft? might i ask if you plan a journal, i wanna follow this hehe

well, the best way to do it is with an old camera that doesnt have the photo mark in it (youd need a microscope to see it), dont show anything that ties you to a location, and upload it to a photo site with a different name then upload the pics through the url function. if your really worried (like me) i can show you how to change your ip address every time you sign online. you see, if you state you are growing, it doesnt matter if you have pics or not, you can always claim "it wasnt me on that account" just keep yourself outta the pics. im really not trying to convince you to post. i just read what i wrote and it kinda sounded like it.
