I'v done investigating and i still kinda dont get it 600 Watt Ballast what is it for in lame terms does it stop the light from overheating??

it supplys a constant regulated supply of current so that the current draw does not slowly increase and potentially burn out the lamp

So whatever wattage i go with the buld i should with the ballist as well
