600 watt hps bulb flickering...

Im new to hid lights, I bought a 600 watt hps system last month and sunday a bulb blew already. I sent it back to htg and they sent me a new one that i got today... I turned it on around 3 pm today and just went up for a smoke break and noticed the light dimmering like flickering....Not flickering on and off but dimmering on and off (im baked btw)..lol.. Whats the reason...Could it be the ballast? Or the bulb is just shit? Appreciate your thoughts...

there is some minor pulsing with a lot of hps bulbs but this usually slight .. If yours is doing any serious fading back and forth you need to check your ballast . If your ballast is defective it will continue to cause bulb failure . You didnt say what kind of ballast or set up your using but some of those " kits " have pretty cheap ballast and have a tendacy to overheat . I have seen growers that carefully removed the cover and blow a fan directly on the unit to run them cooler - they claim this improves the performance .. but i cant personally verify this ...

Hopefully your just baked and everything is fine when the buzz wears off - but if not I'd have a hard look at my ballast ... good luck

Thanks for the reply Jeff..Yeah I was pretty toked up last night....It's an htg digital so Id say its on the cheaper side.... Its a very miniscule dim. Just enough to bug me out when I was smoking....I think I was just over reacting...lol... I didnt notice it with the other bulb though so thats why I was worried.. The bulb is a growbright... Ballast problem, or MAYBE the wiring, but probably the ballast.

definately not the wiring. Im an electrician and my home has a brand new service+ i ran a designated 20 amp circuit just for my grow room.... Thanks for stopping by..
