Hello. What should my minimum distance be? Air cooled 600 watt eye hortilux super hps. I can hug the hood, it's only slightly warm. How close can I get this to my canopy? 3 weeks into veg now, switching over on May 4th, and looking for max upward growth now.. I have another 1.5 feet they can grow. Thanks!

I'd recommend to keep the light at least 6 inches away from your canopy. OR what you can do is keep your hand at the very top of your canopy for a minute or two and let your hand gauge the temperature of the light and adjust it accordingly.

6 inches is pretty close regardless If you're running a cool tube.

I'm running one at the moment just over a foot away and that's close imo

as close as u can while maintaining an appropriate foot print for plants that r not directly under the light. The closer the better but to close will burn plants and/or not provide as much light to surrounding plants. the hand test is what I do

That's part of the problem I'm running into. I'm drawing in such cold air that I can put my hand on the glass for over a minute without trouble.

That's not a problem that's good. It's good for you to run cool that means you can get as close as you want. But there's a point of diminishing returns as far as the surrounding plants that are not directly under the light so you have to find a happy medium
