600 vs. 1000 the age old question, which light is better for my application???

Hey guys, so I have a rather large basement that I am looking to get started growing it. I figure I have room for up to 8 lights or so. I am contemplating between using 600s/1000s. I understand the 600w ballasts are the most efficient ballast out there, only a fraction less lumens than a 1000 but uses about half the amperage. I am planning to grow 4 plants per light, and top or "main-line" them into 8 even main colas, stripping all of the bottom "larf" during the first weeks of flower. I have heard that even though 1000s produce a brighter light, they run so much hotter that you must keep them farther away from the plants than you would a 600. The only advantage to 1000s I can see is a deeper penetration to the under-canopy but since I will be trimming all of this anyway I am beginning to think 600s will work for me. That being said, it seems you never see grows of larger proportion using 600s, always 1000s. As you can see I am torn, any insight on this would be greatly appreciated guys thanks.

I like 600's. I have a 1000 for a back up but hardly ever use it because of the extra heat. Since I have to put it higher over the plants I wonder if I am gaining anything besides a higher light bill. Just like you suspected.
